Friends of Dartmouth hockey were saddened by news of the sudden death of Tom Cranna '62, captain of the Indian hockey team in 1962 and an All-Ivy second team selection as a defenseman in 1961 and 1962. A native of Devils Lake, N.D., who was living with his family in Minneapolis, Minn., Cranna had recently completed law studies following service as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot in Vietnam.... Dartmouth's tennis team finished third in the annual ECAC fall tournament at Princeton, and the Dartmouth golfers took sixth place in the ECAC fall event on Long Island. . . . For those who are wondering whatever happened to "Dial-the-Coach," the recorded telephone message from Coach Bob Blackman that followed each Dartmouth football game last year, the answer is that technical difficulties with the equipment led to a decision to discontinue the recordings this fall... Bob Blackman was cited recently during ceremonies in Springfield, Mass., marking the centennial of football, as the most successful modern football coach in the East.... Roger Penland, assistant basketball coach at Dartmouth for the past two years, has left coaching to accept a position with a personnel consulting firm in Hanover.
