On March 5 a cocktail party was held at the University Club to give those who cannot make the luncheons an opportunity to meet with the regulars. It also gave JackJacoby '51, major-domo of the March 15th ski races, an opportunity to recruit a corps of assistants. On hand at the party were the following couples, the Don Lanes '56, Len Tobiases '41, Anson Marks '53, Joe Monells '62, Jim Littles '65, Pete Funkes '63, Pete Wellses '63, Don McMichaels '53, Kitt Cowperthwaites '58; as well as these stags: Fritz Pansing '37, Don Jones '43, Bob Melcher '53 and John Meir '57.

March 15 was a beautiful Colorado day and 17 high and prep schools had teams in the meet in which 78 boys participated. Steve Bradley '39, manager of Denver's Winter Park Ski Area, had reserved the most suitable runs and served as chief of course. Colin Stewart '48 was referee; chief timer was Jerry Hiatt, a former star on the ski team of Denver University. Chief starter was Don McMichael '53; finish judges and recorders were Lee Ambrose '59, Dave Stephenson '46, Jim Little '65, and Kitt Cowperthwaite '58. Harry Lewis '55 did a stellar job as course policeman and Anson Mark'53 was head gatekeeper. Many Dartmouth wives turned out to help make the day a jolly one. Ed Hunter '55, Kent Rickenbaugh'59, Fritz Pansing '37 and several others did their bit when called upon. The Dartmouth Cup was won by Wheatridge High School; Littleton was second, and Lakewood was third.

This year, for the first time, a memorial trophy was awarded to the skimeister, Ray Hilliard of Cherry Creek High School. The cup is given this year in memory of EdwinHendrie Grant '30, beloved by the entire membership for his jovial personality, his generosity in giving his farm each year for our summer picnic, and his ever readiness to serve both club and college. His gracious widow, Mary Belle, presented the award to the victor.

The annual dinner was held at the Denver Country Club on April 21 with 88 men in attendance. Following reports of the Club activities Jerry Samuelson '55, chairman of the Recruitment Committee, reported 61 completed applications and that 28 young men had been accepted at the college. Paul Clarkin'59, chairman of the Steam Roller Committee, submitted the following slate of officers who were duly elected: President, Jim Swanson '59; vice president, Bob Montgomery'56; secretary, Ev Parker '16, assistant, Derrill Trenholm Jr. '40; treasurer, John Shaddock '53, assistant. Bob Halbert '53. Trustees elected were Group A, Barclay Corbus '61 and Bruce Ducher '60; Group B, Tom Fead'56 (just elected to the Million Dollar Round Table) and George Shaw '54; Group C. Colin Stewart '48 and Fritz Pansing '37 and Don Jones '43 carries on for another two years.

It was also reported that another Secret Committee had chosen Dr. Seymour Wheelock '40 to represent Region VI, District 3 on the Council of the Alumni of Dartmouth College. This selection pleased everyone.

Then ex-President Don McMichael '53 called Jack Jacobey '51 to the head table and presented him with a plaque for his fine job as assistant secretary and more importantly for the most successful Ski Meet which he masterminded. A second plaque was awarded to Cal Fisher '32 for his brilliant service as the Club representative on the Alumni Council. Cal is deeply concerned about the welfare of the College, kept the Club abreast of what was going on and was of great assistance in enrollment work.

Our speaker Leonard M. Reiser '44, Dean of the Faculty and Provost of the College, spoke of the problems, opportunities, and pressures on the Faculty and Administration. How they were desperately endeavoring to keep the lines of communication open to try to avoid confrontation. There are many unsolved problems with the S.D.S Black Students and the R.O.T.C. In these complicated times everyone is working on the problems including one president, fifteen trustees, 400 faculty and 3200 students. Dr Rieser held the rapt attention of his audience, which was and is deeply concerned about the present crisis in all our colleges and universities but most particularly Dartmouth.

The Edwin Hendrie Grant '30 MemorialTrophy is presented by his widow MaryBelle to Ray Hillard, skimeister in theDenver Club's high school meet.
