The fourth annual Alumni Seminar of the Great Divide was held the weekend of January 22-24 at Alpen Inn on the Y.M.C.A. Camp of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colo. Pete Wells '63 was organizer, director, and maestro of the brain rejuvenation program. President Bob Montgomery '57, self-appointed Professor of Liquidity, poured it out without measure at appropriate times.

We were fortunate in the Hanover contingent as Professors Alpha Male Fernandez (Anthropology) and Jim Wright (History) were excellent lecturers and asked those trifocal questions that delight every professor's ego. "Yes" or "No" answers were impossible. The altitude, nearly 8000 feet, must have given them a lift as both were in top form.

The general format was two lectures and then the group divided into three groups for discussion. As an extra Professor Fernandez showed two films which emphasized how we all act like baboons at times, and the Territorial Imperative as adjacent tribles in New Guinea uphold it today.

The final event was a panel discussion moderated by Sey Wheelock '40, our Alumni Councillor, who maintained adequate order until it was suggested that politicians were of the elite. We got badly hung up on that word as everyone had a different idea of the meaning. Finally Betty O'Neil, Stanford '48, mother of DonO'Neil '71, got us out of the bind by suggesting it had the same root as elevator or elevation, meaning above the common herd. For some, elite was hard to swallow in reference to politicians and then we remembered Monte Pascoe '57 who had run for the School Board, and he is surely of the elite. Semantics is the curse of us all.

To lead the full life each one of us must have identity, stimulation, and security. Each had identity by uninhibited expression of personal opinion, each was stimulated by the lectures and discussion and we all had security from the hundred- mile-an-hour freezing winds in front of the roaring fire.

If Fernandez is right And Wright backs Fernandez, You have to believe What each of them sez.

Our recruiting program spearheaded by John Ratigan '61 has obtained sixty completed applications and four boys have been given Early Acceptance. LorenLortscher '69 is in charge of interviewing. It is a tough job to have boys and alumni at the same place at the same time.

We anticipate with great pleasure the arrival of President and Mrs. Kemeny for our annual dinner. April 22. He is a fine speaker and we will have the opportunity to hear from the Chief what's what and what will be in Hanover. Bob Halbert '59 and Don Schwayder '59 are doing their best to find a suitable dinner and meeting spot that will not cut the attendance because of the high price.
