Secretary, 6 Yale Circle, Berkeley, Calif. 94708

President Dickey was the speaker on April 17 for our Annual Meeting held in the Peacock Room of the Mark Hopkins Hotel. The first part of his talk to the 135 gathered there covered Dartmouth's purpose, elaborating on the material prepared for the Alumni Fund mailing. The balance of his talk concerned the problems at Hanover involving such matters as ROTC, disadvantaged people who need an education, social unrest and coeducation. While we didn't learn of any magic formula to solve these problems we do know the administration is trying to keep the college on an even keel.

The election of officers resulted in the following slate for this next year: President, Bill Long '59; vice-presidents, Mike Biggs'54 and Tom Hannon '60; secretary-treas- urer, Carl Ward '32, assistant secretary- treasurer, Bob Allen '33. Jack Clow '52, local enrollment chairman, told us Hanover had accepted 25 men from our area for entrance in September and said he felt at least 15 will matriculate.

Dave Smith '35, former Alumni Councilor, present Enrollment District Chairman and Northern California Chairman for the Third Century Fund, was presented an Alumni Award by President Dickey on behalf of the Alumni Council. This tribute goes to a most deserving man, who gives generously of his time and talents to our College. Guy Wallick '21, former Alumni Councilor from our area, presented John Dickey a scroll, honoring him for his years of devoted service to all Dartmouth men.

In an attempt to hold meaningful meetings outside the center of our alumni group (San Francisco), a joint affair was held on March 7 with the Dartmouth alumni at Stanford Club. Our speaker was Jim Simmons, who worked in Hanover for two years, heading up the ABC program. Sixty- five attended this dinner at Rickey's Hyatt House. With the wealth of speakers available at Stanford this type of meeting should be an annual affair. Our thanks to Charlie Hoeveler '67, president of the Stanford alumni group, for making arrangements for this stimulating evening.

Professor Berger of the Physics Department, on sabbatical at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Berkeley, was our luncheon speaker on March 19. He gave us a review of and insight into the graduate study program at Dartmouth, outlining the reasons for the move from being a college only to becoming a university.

The first announcements are out giving brief details of our first fall activity - a California Alumni College, patterned after the Alumni College held in Hanover each August, to be held at Wawona Hotel in Yosemite National Park, September 5, 6, 7, Friday P.M., Saturday, and Sunday. This concentrated weekend program synthesizes the two-week course in Hanover. We anticipate a turn-out of over 100, including alumni from both southern and northern California.

Again we urge visitors to our area to plan to be available on any Wednesday they are in San Francisco to join us at our regular weekly luncheon held at the Iron Horse on Maiden Lane at 12 o'clock. Call up one of your classmates and make a date to meet with us.
