C. C. Hills left Hanover last fall and after living in Mt. Dora and Duneden, this August he moved to the Hotel Suwannee, Ist Ave. N., St. Petersburg 33731. He reports all well here and hopes the same is true with you all up north.
FALL FOOT BALL—The talk around Hanover is that Blackman has a strong team with some of the best letter men of 69 back. Dartmouth should be a top contender this year. Yale is picked as the strongest team with Dartmouth second. Princeton lost a number of letter men but is sure to give us a tough fight on October 10.
Mildred Putnam spent a few days with her cousin in Canada but most all of the summer was at Bustins Island. She is now back in Montclair. Contributions are still coming in for George’s memorial fund. The love and respect felt for him by so very many friends is almost unbelievable.
Jane and I had our best time ever at Alumni College. The attendance was down a little from last year but this being our seventh year we knew lots of the people, and our Dartmouth friends mean a great deal to us all, many having been at Alumni College the full seven years.
I received the Alumni Award of a silver Paul Revere Bowl given at the opening banquet for continuing loyalty and service to Dartmouth. Fletcher Hatch received a similar award in 1962 and Alva still has the bowl displayed on her mantel and it is one of her most cherished possessions. The citation was very similar to mine.
The result of a recent questionnaire regarding the grandchildren derby, EthelLilUard wins with 22 and Mildred Putnam is second with 21. The closing date will be June 30, and for next year your secretary is offering a $25 Liberty Bond for the winner.
Birthdays coming up:—Nov. 1, Blatner born 1883; Nov. 1, Grover, bom 1881; Dec. 27, Bussell born 1880.
The best news to report is the marriage of three Dartmouth granddaughters Law-rence, Lilliard, and White and the birth of a great granddaughter to Alva Hatch. Any other lucky widow please advise the writer.
Shirley Cunningham finds it impossible for him to continue as news letter editor so I will have to try to carry on, unless someone else wants to do the job. I will be glad to have some help.
