The soccer season has been a roller coaster ride for Dartmouth's rebuilding booters.
Coach George Beim's Indians won a couple of games in which they were decided underdogs (as against Brown, 1-0, and Columbia, 2-0) but then had the frustrating experiences of losing to Yale and Cornell, teams they were regarded as superior to this fall. As it turned out, the dreams of the first winning season since 1964 went by the board at Cornell and the Indians took a 3-5-2 record to the finale at Penn.
There are a number of individuals who have been outstanding despite the disappointing record. Foremost, perhaps, is sophomore Bob Jordan from Hanover who has shifted through a number of positions and been a steady performer at every one. Then, too, there's rangy fullback Rich Gifford from Schenectady, N. Y., who ranks as Dartmouth's leading All-Ivy candidate. He's had good support from halfback Al Goodloe of Webster Groves, Mo., and perhaps the most durable of all has been goalie John Orange, who has produced four shutouts (all of the wins plus a scoreless standoff with Williams) and will be a tough man to replace in 1971.
