As expected, Dartmouth's track team scored well in the weights but the thin corps of runners could not withstand the likes of Cornell and Colgate. The Indians' lone asset in an 80-29 loss to Cornell was the double win of gigantic (6-8, 280 pounds) George Remmer who won both the shot-put and weight throw. Remmer, a senior from Oakdale, N.Y., broke his own varsity indoor record in the shot-put and a week later he improved again with a distance of 52' 8¼" against Colgate. This time, however, it was good only for third place as sophomore Ted Moody from Philadelphia muscled the shot 53' 6¾".

In the weight throw, Captain DeWitt Davies did what Coach Ken Weinbel has said he would - take over the Dartmouth and Leverone Field House record. The Dartmouth record, held by George Bixby since 1957, went to Davies in the Colgate meet with a distance of 59' 9%", five inches better than Bixby. He was also an inch beyond the Leverone record set in 1968 by Bruce Weberbauer of Manhattan.

In squash, the Indians dipped to a 1-3 record with losses to Harvard and Army but, once again, there's legitimate reason for optimism.

"We're scoring points where we haven't been able to in the past couple of years," said Coach John Kenfield. "It takes five individual points for the team to win. We should be able to improve on last year (7-6) if we continue on our present course."

Captain Geoff Scott, playing the No. 1 position, is looking better than a year ago even though, he's been beaten by Harvard's Larry Terrell (the nation's best collegiate player) and George Alcorn of Army.

Behind Scott, Justin Stanley has been beaten twice in close five-game matches. Jim Smith, a junior, and sophomore Jan Opsahl scored wins against Army while Scott and Stanley were tripped up in the 7-2 match.

In varsity wrestling, the Indians dipped to 0-2 as M.I.T. scored a 35-3 win with the lone Dartmouth success coming with Bob Elliott's decison in the 134-pound event.
