Those who attended our 60th Reunion in Hanover will remember Mrs. Alice M. Cellar, the gracious guest of Mert Wilson, and will be happy to know they were married on August 15 at Baldwin, N. Y. After August 30 their address is 381 Staunton Avenue, Baldwin, N. Y. 11510. The Class sends its congratulations and sincerest best wishes for happiness in the years ahead.
Arthur P. (Chuck) Bush, the second oldest and blessed with very good health is very disappointed to have had to cancel plans to attend our 60th Reunion and show Lucy Hanover. He is enjoying retirement at West Dennis on Cape Cod with his garden, basement woodworking shop and keeping abreast of foreign affairs and scholarly items.
A factual statement from Sam Aronowitz reports that the Dartmouth College Club of Eastern New York which meets once a month (excluding July and August) is very much opposed to coeducation unless someone comes forward with the money needed to put the thing through.
After our 60th Reunion in June BillGooding wrote, "I was glad to see some of my old friends. Two of whom I hired early in my stay in Hanover came in to see me, each with over 40 years of service with the College." It can be added that unless you see it firsthand, you cannot possibly realize the depth of affection and respect these folks have for their old boss every time he returns to Hanover, now nearly twenty years after his retirement as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds."
The Rev. E. E. Morrill and Cora from California wrote how disappointed they were to miss the 60th (Cora getting as far East as Chicago and Ernest to Connecticut), due to last-minute health problems. Ernest concluded, "Let's be thankful not just that we can live these extra years but that we can live them well and can still make worthwhile contributions to the life of our marvelous country."
True Dudley, Bill Gooding and DutchWaterbury were the only 1911'ers to join the procession from Webster Hall to the graduation ceremonies on June 13.
Our Class Agent John Learoyd plans for the future. "For a long time it has been the practice of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund each year to transfer to the Veteran Classes group the class which celebrates its 60th Reunion at Commencement time. The Veteran Classes group has its own set of goals. The two most important changes for our Class of 1911 will be: no assigned dollar goal to be raised by us each year, and a new item aimed at getting a Fund gift from all living classmates. This is an appropriate way to recognize the fact that after 60 years as alumni we are relieved of the pressure of raising assigned goals each year but continue to be a part of the Alumni Fund."
It is distressing to include so much bad news in this issue of the Magazine but we must report the passing of Charlie Jordan's wife Clara, Dick Whelden's widow Priscilla, and Burt Cooper's widow Lillian. In Memoriam notices will be found in this Magazine for George Nevius, JohnSchaupp, and Chuck Emerson. BendyGriswold attended Chuck's funeral services and personally sent flowers from Dartmouth 1911.
Note a change of address for Mrs.Joshus B. (Polly) Clark to 806 Windsor Drive North, Framingham, Mass. 01701.
Harold Burtt, surprisingly alert and communicative, reports in with two greatgrandchildren and following Ken Clark's suggestion for a "Lest-We-Forget" section, recalls the mad rush from Webster Hall to Commons for Sunday night supper after 5 o'clock compulsory chapel.
Cora Taylor sent a cordial note to JohnLearoyd with her check for the Alumni Fund. Judging by her handwriting and spontaneity, the years have treated her kindly.
