The Fates of August, Friday, the 13th had 17 of the Class gathered for luncheon at the Woodstock Inn. Your scribe came from Middlebury where he was visiting his son '57 to join Stump and Ethel Barr,Ted and Helen Hazen, Steve andDorothy Mahoney, Syl and MinettaMorey, D wight and Peg Sargent,George and Pat Stoddard, Chet Hulbert,Doc and lone Woodruff and lone's sister, Peg Williams. The last four went on to Alumni College. Al Gottschaldt spent August at his daughter's in South Middleboro, Mass. from where he was enthusing the class about the Fort Lauderdale Pow Wow next March 14, of which Tom Jones is chairman. Baron von Kapff and his Class Agents team merit real credit for getting 1918 to exceed it's Alumni Fund quota with one of our largest yearly totals. George W. Davis is slowly recovering at a nursing home. Jasper Johnston, in a visit, found George and Dorothy are happy to receive letters from 1918ers. Steve Mahoney is assured that the honking goslings which gather in Fritz Cassebeer's sanctuary do gather fall flight strength by feeding on dandelion puffs.
Mel and Frieda Southwick were in Middleboro, Mass. this summer. We are sorry to report Mel's ninety year old mother passed on this year. Joe W. Seacrist, president of State Journal Company, received the Distinguished Citizen's Award from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
In April Amos Blandin, at a dinner in his honor, received the Robert Frost Contemporary American Award from the Plymouth State College. The award yearly honors one who exemplifies traditions of individuality, hard work and devotion to the country north of Boston.
After many years as a Massachusetts circuit judge, Donald M. Macaulay has retired. He was honored by a gala dinner and many newspaper accounts of his service.
Chuck Palmer' continues to keep Atlanta on the map by being chairman of a state organization to build a $20-million Georgia International Center for world trade and conventions.
Bob and Mildred Fish write, "Our four Wisconsin grandchildren and their parents toured the West, roosting with us for ten days. That gave great pleasure though we were not the most scenic things they encountered."
Kathy and Ed Ferguson are home from a Maine summer of fishing to find Edith and Stub Stanley now in good health. Clara and Ed Felt spent the summer at their Canadian cottage and were visited by the Stoddards. John Donohtie enjoyed a vacation on the Kerry Peninsular renewing his native language for only the Gaelic tongue is spoken there. Jules and Janet Van Raalte as usual were at their summer retreat on Nantucket.
On October 24 the Class gathers at Brae Burn Country Club where Harvey Hood and Ed Ferguson sponsor the luncheon and Tom Shirley arranges for all to take a bus to the Harvard game. For rooms at the club or a near by motel and space on the bus, write Shirley at 137 Annawan Road, Waban, Mass. 02168.
