I'm sitting here in what could be described as a "Bauernstube" in a little town in Bavaria with a wonderful view of the Alps, trying to gather enough concentration from a total "do-nothing" vacation to write this month's column. It will be hard going!
From Cambridge Reg Regestein sounded off with a crammed letter of political commentary and news. He shortly will be assistant in Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital after doing his residency at the Boston City Hospital and being a teaching fellow in Psychiatry at Harvard. Before coming to the Boston area, Reg spent six years of work, play and skiing, in Montreal, Which gave rise to some of his sociopolitical byplay.
Psychiatry seemed to be the big hit this month: another old friend, Jon Tuerk is also in it. After a year of medical residency at the University Hospital in Baltimore, he's now a resident in psychiatry at Yale. Jon and wife Cathy are hiking enthusiasts and spend vacations on the hoof, so to speak, in interesting places like Jamaica and Florida. I must add one other note in connection with Jon: he claims that we all (all those at the Yale Game in any case) have changed little since graduation. Thank you, Jon; such bedside manners will come in handy for a psychiatrist.
Melinda, wife of John Mitchell, dropped me a most appreciated note. John had just returned from London where he had been on business for the Univac Division of Sperry Rand. Melinda and John have two boys, Peter and Jeffrey - No. 2 is brand new, born on November 25. Congratulations!
Dave Frankel, too, dropped me a line. He's at the McLean Hospital in the Boston area. Dave Greenstein, last fall, became an instructor in English at Middlebury. He has & master's from Columbia. The Rev. Paul Quinlan continues his musical successes: Paul recently released his second album of psalms and biblical themes set to folk music. Paul is a Jesuit father and lectures at Holy Cross where he also assists in a cam Pus liturgical program. A few months ago, Pete Ralph became the assistant director of Blythodale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N. Y. He will be primarily concerned with the new building and expansion program at the institution. Pete is married and has a master's degree in public health from Yale.
Amazingly enough, I can report only one wedding this time: Dave Mills married Linda Wallraff in New York. Dave has a master's from the Columbia Graduate School of Business.
There are two late items with which I have to catch up in this column. Abe Ross, in October, was promoted to captain in the U. S. Army Medical Service Corps. He is a social psychologist at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Abe has a master's degree from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Abe and wife Judith Ann live in Maryland. The other news item is dated September and comes from Peoria, Ill., where Skip Snyder was named assistant trust officer of the Commercial National Bank.
Ray Pong called me in Boston on his way from Somerville, Mass., to Lausanne, Switzerland, where he was going to spend a few weeks' vacation with his wife. He's just about ready to get a Ph.D. in Toxicology from MIT.
Tom Ettinger is still combining his interests in sports and sales. Etts has joined the merchandising staff of Sports Illustrated magazine in New York. He had been with the Head Ski Company in Maryland, where he served two years as the Middle Atlantic sales representative and two years as director of advertising. He was a lieutenant in Army Ordnance from 1960 to 1962. Last we heard, Etts is still a bachelor.
And now the news in headline form: I hear that John Anderson is the assistant manager of the Anderson Reynolds Corporation. Jules Cote, in Alstead Center, N. H., is the chairman of the Foreign Language Department of the Fall Mountain Regional High School. Hank Greer is a marketing manager with IBM in Ohio. Ken Hillner is an assistant professor of Psychology at Indiana University. Art Kopelman is a captain in the Air Force. Bruce McLeod is an auditor with Consolidated Leasing Corp. in Los Angeles. Herb Maurer is a captain in the Air Force Medical Corps at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. Dave Segal is an international relations officer in the Department of State in Washington. Dave Zehr is a teaching assistant in the Zoology Department at the North Carolina University in Raleigh. And with that, the snow outside and the subsequent warming up process becomes too tempting. See you next month!
