This month's column belongs to farmer Ed Healey and his singing wife Luke. Ed wrote (thirty-one) letters to Mid and Far West classmates for news. Here are gleanings from the (eighteen) replies he harvested to share with others:

Steve and Helen Teaze spent the summer in the home of friends at Big Bear Lake. Paul Gerrish, being retired from college teaching of math and physical education, has developed a fine family swimming pool and recreation club which he invites all of 1918 to use when in Pasadena. In the off-season, that is winter, he is back running two schools of math from fifth grade to college. We wonder if it is the new math that bothers the children of our today's parents?

Gene and Betty Clark in July celebrated their Golden Anniversary with their three daughters and six grandchildren. Lang and Martha Robinson represented 1918 at the church reception given by the daughters for their parents and host of friends. Lang and Martha on their summer trip East, besides being in Hanover at the Holy Cross game, visited Howardand Helen Robinson in Westfield, Mass., and Hort Chandler's widow in Concord, N. H. Lang meets Bill Dutelle regularly at Rotary. Bill is now with an engineering firm in Springfield, 111.

Ed Garvey wrote from Chapala, Jal, Mexico, where he spends half of the year. Then he is on the road from a home base in Virginia to Connecticut and California. Homer Johnson wrote that he was so busy moving into retirement and getting ready for an extended trip he could not report more.

Herm and Laura Whitmore radiate out to the many fine places of their area. Herm had the pleasure of cards from GeneMarkey and Sieg Judd who were toasting his good health. Ted Booth enjoys life in the scenic hills of Oregon. Ray Dart retired from investment work in 1969 and now he and Hazel recently moved into a country-club-type complex for easier living for folks of our age. Buss and Get Howard had two big events. First Howard retired from 50 years of banking to become chairman of the board of Mahaska State Bank, with his son succeeding him as president. Then, at a family reunion and party of friends they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

John Cunningham continues to spend a few hours at his insurance office each day. He is still gloating with Katherine over their 50th anniversary celebration in Hawaii and bemoaning the Denver 15-inch snowfall of September 17 that ruined his fruit and vegetable garden. Al and Mary Strout have spent many summers in travel to various countries. Now after 50 yean of teaching English in eight different colleges. Al has retired to Lubbeck, Texas, to collect royalties on his writing. George Woodruff writes of the stimulating experience of Alumni College. He rates this year the best of the seven he and wife lone have attended. Bill Mudgett reports wife Kay is still a dynamo while he is satisfied to just sit. On the date of his letter they were to have dinner with the widow of Ed Butts who lives nearby. Takes the ladies to get Bill in circulation!!

John McMahon, after years of sale promotion with Tide Water Oil and the: his own sales organization, has retiree After many years of serious illness his first wife died. He is now married to a lad: from Colombia, S. A. Bob and Mildrec Fish came East to celebrate their 45th with their children and families and possibly meet with the 1918 Eastablishment of New York City.

In September Ed Healey gave the eulogy at the funeral of George Trafton, former Captain of the Chicago Bears in the 1920-1930 period. On the flight back from Los Angeles George Halas asked Ed when he was to write that book. Ed responded in the negative with, "The world does not have to tell the sun it shines."

We regretfully report the deaths of George A. Blood on October 14, 1969 and of Charles L. Phillips on January 17 1969, such news has only recently beer received.

As we send this to Hanover we are sorry to report the passing of Ralph G. Norton and William F. Elder: dates for each being October 7, 1971. On behalf of the Class, letters of sympathy have been sent to the families. Further details will be in the obituary column of this or a later issue.
