Secretary, 11734 Chenault St. Los Angeles, CA 90049

The past year has been a very active one for the Dartmouth Club of Southern California under the presidency of EdwardB. Linsley '46, who has kindly provided his Bank of California's executive board room for our monthly directors' meetings. We had general meetings, either luncheons or special events, at least once a month throughout the year and plan to continue this busy schedule as long as Secretary H. Flint Ranney's trusty typewriter holds up in pounding out the monthly notices to our 250 active (dues- paying) members. If you feel that you have not been well-informed through the year, pay your dues and notice how much more Club mail you receive!

Although we lost our Alumni Seminar Chairman, Robert T. Cox '33, to the Peace Corps, and our banker Treasurer C. AlexHuck '62 to the wilds of Wisconsin, we are assured of fine performances by their replacements, C. Eugene Givens '55, who is promoting this year's Alumni Seminar for California at Aetna Springs on the weekend of September 17-19, and investment banker Joseph I. Scott '58, who as club treasurer promises not to invest our funds in pork bellies. We were pleased to have our area Alumni Councilor Vincent W. Jones '52 elected in Hanover as a Vice President of the Alumni Council, indicating more general acceptance of the idea that California is here to stay.

We received nearly 200 replies (of 1050 mailed) to our Alumni questionnaire, and the club directors have reacted favorably to the consensus that we have women invited to more events, that we have luncheons in the downtown area but evening events in various locations, that we retain the dues at $10 annually (except for the last two graduating classes which have no dues and the preceding eight classes which have $5 dues), and that we utilize the Southern California Scholarship Fund more aggressively to help area students at Dartmouth.

As far as events in the future are concerned (to be confirmed by subsequent mailings), Program Chairman and Club Vice President Nick Carter '41 is working on a luncheon and tour of Los Angeles Harbor for September 24; we plan a gala Mexican Fiesta at Lawry's Foods on San Fernando Road for Dartmouth Night, October 29, where Alumni and wives in casual attire can enjoy good food and drink—John Van de Kamp '56 promises to keep the commercials very low-key; HartleyCaldwell '23, just back from working with the Air Force in Viet Nam will be our luncheon speaker on November 19; and we are looking forward to a December Christmas party for Dartmouth students, parents, applicants, and alumni to be arranged by Enrollment Liaison Officer Milt Olander '5l. It looks like a busy fall schedule and all alumni are encouraged not only to take part in the meetings but also to make suggestions for events and locations where we might meet. Call Secretary Ranney at 213-626-4211.
