Since the publication of the October issue of this column some of you must have been concerned with either your eyesight or your memories, but if you have not already done something drastic to cure the problem, I think I can help clear it up for you. There were two pictures in that issue, one of Tom Myers, and the other of NealFarrell. if you will simply reverse the Pictures you will get the right man with the right story. Brigit Myers and Penny Farrell will no longer have to respond to the raised eyebrows of their respective families, and should also understand that this writer had nothing to do with the mistake. The Alumni Mag staff ran these two stories in an attempt to scoop the secretary, but their enthusiasm was exceeded only by their lack of familiarity with the subject matter. No offense, I'm sure, was intended. Also, I was much heartened by the letters I received from several classmates calling attention to the mistake. It was Pleasant to know that these lines are read so closely, and also, it was novel to receive some mail for a change.
I now must make a special notation in honor of Dick Barker who, in late August, was appointed by the board of trustees of Grahm Junior College in Boston to the post of vice-president for college affairs. Dick will have the direct responsibility for the areas of admissions, development, financial aid, and alumni and public relations. (And, I will add, unsolicited, that he does one helluva job as our class treasurer and chief news gatherer without whose efforts this column would probably have dried up about three years ago.) This list of Dick's achievements in both professional and community affairs is lengthy and demonstrates the same kind of interested endeavor that gained him the alumni Class Treasurer of the Year Award from Dartmouth in 1970. I, too, am personally in his debt for the job he has done in digging up news. Dick, his wife, Barbara, and their 3 sons make their home in Wakefield, Mass.
William D. Donovan must by now have caught up with Barker in Wakefield which is the Bill's new base of operations as director of group sales for the American Mutual Liberty Insurance Company. Bill joined American in 1966 as a member of the marketing staff after having served as a brokerage consultant to Prudential. He is a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters, the American Society of Association Executives, and the National Ski Patrol. The Donovans and their four daughters live in Andover, Mass.
Out in Caldwell, N. J., Kenilworth Laboratories division of Schering Corporation set up a marketing services department under the direction of Frederick W. Page. The department will provide marketing research, analysis, and information systems for all Schering Laboratories departments. Fred joined Schering in 1957 as administrative assistant in production control and completed an M.B.A. at New York University in 1960. The Pages have three children and live in Caldwell.
If it weren't for the wives of some of you we'd never know what was happening that might be of interest. Thanks to Marilyn Fetheroff we learned that Donald M.Fetheroff is now co-owner and advertising manager of the Van Nuys Publishing Company, Van Nuys, Calif. Don is also president of the Van Nuys Rotary Club and this year treated his wife to a trip to the International Rotary Convention held in Sidney, Australia. Marilyn writes that "en route to the convention we toured Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji"—a fabulous 34-day excursion that leaves my mouth watering. But, Marilyn goes on to say, it was a "long way from home and our five-year-old daughter."
From Maracaibo, Venezuela comes news of Francisco J. Garcia-Romero who wrote to Treasurer Barker that he is very busy trying to make a go out of a cattle ranch he bought five years ago. He must have been busy because, while he sent in his class dues, he couldn't remember if it was for the current year, the one just past, or the one to come. Yet, "Paco" appears to love the life of a cowboy and those of us who are land-locked in concrete canyons has to envy the freedom of wide open spaces.
Art Rauch and wife Roxie recently treated their two little ones, David (7) and Janine (5) to their first Broadway show—"1776." While Art writes that they enjoyed it immensely, the highlight of the afternoon was a visit backstage with the star JohnCunningham which must have wowed the youngsters. John lives in Rye, N. Y. but his busy weekend schedule makes it impossible to get away for any of the fall football weekends. John also maintains a busy schedule of soap opera TV appearances and had us in stitches one night telling what it is like to act the part of an obstetrician and literally not know "which end is up."
Well, that's all for now. Keep the news coming.
