March is the start of the schlump season. Remember the mud, puddles and duck boards, and single file traffic across the green held up by the occasional skier on crutches? Well, with the thaw comes the realization that spring is not far away, a welcome thought to those of us who face a winter season. As pretty as the snow can be, the warmer weather is welcome indeed, and it has even thawed out some news which has been hibernating in the bottom of the mail bag.

Dave Porter is project engineer with Hughes Aircraft Co., living in a newly built house in Aurora, Colo., a Denver suburb. He, Sally and their four kids moved from Los Angeles last August, taking time to see the Grand Canyon and enjoy the magnificant scenery enroute. Other classmates Dave saw in L.A. were Jim Picken and Steve Banks.

Wally May has been with an advertising agency in Minneapolis for the past nine years, the last two as an account director. (I'd give your company a plug, Wally, but I can't read your writing.) He apparently gets around for he reports seeing TomGessner while looking for an errant Titlist in the rough of the Naples (Fla.) golf course, and Bob Morris at a party outside Minneapolis. And Andy Hommeyer is Wally's client contact at General Mills. Also working in Minneapolis as deputy attorney general for conservation is Will Hartfelt who must have had a busy summer as his boss ran for Governor. Apparently, this area is good for skiing as both Wally and Will schedule their vacations in the winter.

By his own admission, Rick Luedke is an entrepreneur, and enjoys the challenge of being a "small businessman" in the franchise area, specifically Robo Car Wash and Midas Muffler Shops. He and Katy and their two children live in Milwaukee and enjoy taking quick weekend vacations in Northern Wisconsin, and report that Dr.Phil Marden is a pediatrician in Oconomowoc, Wis. In his spare time. Rick is a trustee of the American Field Service International Scholarship Program.

Moving west, Bob Gwynne is a counsellor with the Madison Area Technical College, with particular responsibility for the adult high school and student housing. He saw George Metes in a local campus bar taking a break from his job teaching English while he completes his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. Bob painted his house last summer and admits he nearly bit off more than he could chew. I know what he means, but I only threatened to paint our house so was spared all those stiff muscles. My pain was in my checkbook, however.

Dave Barker opted for married life last July, reducing the single '59's still further. Barlow Nelson was there providing moral support. Getting married and then breaking even at Las Vegas could exhaust the emotions of any man, but perhaps the latter caper was not so difficult—Dave is assistant manager of the bond and securities department of the First National Bank and Trust Company of Tulsa, Okla.

With snow on the ground and the temperature in the teens I envy DaveMarshall with his Decatur, Ga., address, where he is southeast regional marketing manager for Mobil Chemical. Dave and Cynthia often got together with Dirk andSusan Frankenberg prior to Dirk's change from teaching at the University of Georgia to director of the biological oceanography program for the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Terry Ceranski lives in Kenmore, N.Y., where he was senior resident in family practice at the Deaconess Hospital prior to hanging out his shingle in January with a group of M.D.s. No doubt the fees are rolling in by now. He reports seeing Tip Putnam and Kirk Walters during the past year.

Effective January 1, Tom Waterman became a partner of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton, a L.A. law firm. Tom, another geology major who forsook that field, spent three years in the Navy on an oceanographic research ship out of San Francisco, before entering Harvard Law School from which he graduated in 1965. He and Julia live in nearby San Gabriel with their children Sara, nine and Jason, five.

Jim Neff is a general insurance agent with the Neff Insurance Center in Canton, Ohio, which he established eight years ago. He ran into Stu Summers in Youngstown where Stu was representing the Ohio National Life Insurance Co. on a legal matter.

Chuck Donovan wrote to say he and his wife, Eileen, spent their summer vacation in Germany, touring the Black Forest and Bavarian Alps, and enjoyed the trip very much. Chuck recently moved to New Jersey from Keene, N.H., as the Crompton & Knowles Corp. for which he is corporate cash manager, relocated its headquarters in New York City.

A 1959 action picture of Dartmouth's new head football coach, Jake Crouthamel '60,who was taking off around Brown's left end when the camera clicked. Jake, All-Ivyhalfback, holds Dartmouth's career rushing record of 1763 yards.
