When Dick Jaeger said he had trouble with deadlines, I wasn't quite sure what he meant until now, for even though I had all summer to get this column ready it somehow didn't get done until Labor Day. This may have been due to procrastination on my part. So it looks as if the first of the month will bring, along with the bills, the specter of another column due. Seriously, I'm looking forward to spreading the good word I'm going to hear from all of you out there in alumni land.

Our tenth reunion has provided a backlog of news. Joan and I drove up to Hanover with John Towle who journeyed up from Mexico City where he sells advertising for Conde-Nast Publications. John says that Acapulco is actually a pretty dull place since he goes there so frequently - I wish I could say that - and reports Bob Berg is also living in Mexico City, working for International Research Associates. Dr. Chuck Hoyt finally ventured into the real world as he was recently released from the Air Force and his duties at Langley A.F.B. Chuck and family have settled in Berea, Ohio, where he will handle sick call for civilians for a change. Roy Jemison is a consultant in the Boston area for Dunkin Doughnuts Inc., which involves providing all types of assistance to the franchise operators. Sounds interesting, Roy, and free doughnuts too. Jay Herpel zipped in from an unknown Caribbean island where he and his wife were vacationing between a transfer to SanFrancisco from the Portland, Ore., office of the Americoat Corp. I understand the change had something to do with one of the company's products - a special type of metal preserving paint - and the Golden Gate Bridge. Need any help, Jay?

Russ Hjerpe is regional sales manager with Fafnir Bearing Company in Cincinnati. Russ, Judy and their two children live in nearby Loveland on the same street as KimKvalnes. Small world. The Maine shoe industry must have ground to a standstill when Ted Johanson left his factory in Paris (Maine, that is) to come to reunion. Ted assured me that the holey tennis sneakers he was wearing were not a local product. Goody Gilman is still living in Newport, Me., where he has given up the local appliance business in favor of selling electrical equipment. Walt and Lyn Maischoss and baby daughter live in Troy, Mich., just outside of Detroit where Walt is a C.P.A. for Lybrand, Ross Bros. Logically enough Ford is his largest account. How in the world do you take inventory, Walt?

The hijackers have not yet caught up with Ray Hymes who is a pilot for National Airlines, flying between his home in Miami and New York. Many of us will envy you, Ray, when the snow comes. Dr. Joe Scardapane combined a fishing vacation in Maine with the trip East to reunion. Joe has a general practice in Seattle with three associates and this arrangement allowed him the luxury of a month off. After med school he joined the Navy and saw duty on an icebreaker.

A news release from the college indicates that Dave Gavitt has been named head basketball Coach at Providence College where he was freshman coach for four years prior to coming to Dartmouth in 1966. Dave has done a tremendous amount of work to restore Dartmouth basketball and we will sincerely miss him. Good luck, Dave. Professor Dick Regosin has been appointed chairman of the department of French and Italian at the University of California, Irvine. Prior to this assignment, Dick has been associate Professor of French at Dartmouth.

I better stop now to conserve my material. Trust you all had a good summer and the wives are programmed to endure another long football season. And speaking of football, I hope to see you at the Big Green games to swap sea stories over a beer or two.
