The first Dartmouth Alumni Ski Weekend, inaugurating what it is hoped will be an annual event bringing alumni and their families back to Hanover in the snow season, was successfully held from Friday to Sunday, March 5-7, with nearly 100 persons participating.
Two ski races for men, one for women, and one for children, at the Dartmouth Skiway on Saturday afternoon, topped the outdoor program; but the majority of the skiers preferred to be non-competitive and simply enjoyed the fine weather and excellent snow conditions with which the day was blessed. After their outing, the weekenders repaired to the Outing Club House for cocktails, buffet supper, and a film of a Peruvian expedition by Andrew Harvard '71.
The men's short slalom was won by Ted Harris '58, followed by Robert Yusen (father of Walt Yusen '58), and Bill Davis '49. Top men in the long slalom were John Moran '54, Hartley Webster '61, and Louis Lazar '59 and Walt Yusen '58 who tied for third. Winner of the women's slalom was Ingeborg Lazar ('59), with Leslie Abbott ('58) second and Audrey Vosburgh ('52) third. In the junior race, Russ Pleasants ('44) and Ned Harris ('58) tied for first, and Eric Reilly ('44) was third.
