Twelve Dartmouth seniors are among 1046 winners announced by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation in its 25th annual competition. Two were named fellows who will be supported by the foundation for a year of graduate study. Ten have been named finalists and will be recommended by the foundation to graduate schools for assistantships and fellowships.
The purpose of the competition, for which more than 10,000 undergraduates were nominated by their teachers, is to encourage outstanding young people to consider careers in college teaching.
The two fellows are David R. Ellison of Miami, Fla., and G. H. Zimmerman III of Bellefontaine, Ohio. Mr. Ellison will study French literature and Mr. Zimmerman, theoretical physics.
Finalists, and their fields of study, are: Terry D. Brown, Charlotte, N. C., psychology; David E. Clem, Tyler, Tex., urban studies; James D. DeNardo, Honeye Falls, N. Y., government; David S. Griffeath, Sausalito, Calif., mathematics; David M. Levy, New York City, computer sciences; Lawrence G. Manley, Belmont, Vt., English; Harold R. Parks, Lemont, Pa., mathematics; Michael W. Roberts, Houston, Tex., English; Michael J. Ross, Plymouth Meeting, Pa., chemistry; and Paul F. Velleman, Port Washington, N. Y., sociology-political science.
