The great day has arrived—construction has started on the new Murdough Center to be located between Tuck and Thayer at the west end of Tuck Mall. So far, only excavation and removal of trees (the latter caused quite a few tugs at the heart) have taken place, but progress should be rapid when this phase has been completed. This building means so much to the future of Tuck that everyone is excited by the start. We shall keep you posted on construction as the months move along. Now on to news.

Alan B. Lamson T'64 has been named a Vice President of The Garcia Ski and Tennis Corporation. As a one-time captain of the ski team at Middlebury, this ascendancy in a ski corporation was a natural one. Prior to moving to Garcia three years ago, Alan was with Corning Glass Works and later, Streeter and Quarles. In his new capacity, he will be responsible for the overall marketing of the company's ski and tennis equipment lines. ... Received a long and newsy letter recently from Stephen L. Smith T'68 who has become manager, manufacturing engineering for G. E.'s Carbon Products Division in East Stroudsburg, Pa. Steve went through the company's manufacturing management program in Phoenix, Arizona prior to accepting this position. ...

Eugene J. O'Donnell T'70 has recently joined the Zayre Corporation in Framingham, Mass., a firm headed by Stanley H. Feldberg, an Overseer of Tuck School. Gene has joined the small but growing group of Tuck graduates engaged in retailing.

Alan L. Greener T'59 has been named manager of sales and marketing for a division of Becton, Dickinson and Company in New Jersey. Alan was previously a product manager for B-D and prior to that was with a division of American Hospital Supply Corporation. ... Thomas R.Pisano T'68 recently wrote to report his promotion to manager of diversification in the Corporate Planning Department of Avon Products Inc., New York City. Tom has been associated with Avon since 1965 and thoroughly enjoys his responsibility, and progress. ... Another nice letter from Robert W. Simmons T'69 describes his move from Ernst & Ernst to Salomon Brothers in New York. Bob completed his stint with the armed forces following which he returned to Ernst & Ernst but has moved to the New York investment firm quite recently.

Charles J. Goldthwaite Jr. T'67 has been named a vice president of Benton & Bowles in New York. He went with B & B following graduation and is responsible for P & G packaged soap and detergent products. Chuck is a capable and willing official of the new Tuck Alumni Association of New York. ... I read a fascinating article recently about Old Newbury Crafters which is owned by Swift C. BarnesT'47. Following Ave years in the Navy, Swift joined Towle Silversmiths in 1948 and purchased controlling interest in Old Newbury Crafters in Newburyport, Mass. in 1955. The company offers a long line of flat and hollow-ware silver.

Frederick J. England Jr. T'54 has recently been elected president of the Tanners National Bank of Woburn, Mass. Active in the insurance field earlier in his career, Fred was vice president of the Saugus Cooperative Bank, also in Massachusetts, prior to his latest move. ... Dwight A. Beebe T'61 was elected vice president of the Carlisle Allen Company in Ohio earlier this year. Dwight was previously director of data processing for this retail store chain and prior to that was with IBM and Ernst and Ernst. ... Stephen D.Allison T'70 who remained in Hanover following graduation to work with the Dartmouth Comptroller's Office has now moved to Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery in Boston. ... Received a very interesting letter from Beverley Bryant, wife of Alan W. Bryant T'63, bringing us up to date on their activities. Previously in Phoenix with G.E., Alan has been transferred to the company's Wilmington, N. C., plant as manager of personnel relations. Alan and Beverley were very active in various civic affairs in Phoenix, and Beverley has been busy wrapping up a Ph.D. in Political Science from Arizona State University. Both seem happy to return east of the Mississippi. Thanks for your letter, Beverley—I wish more Tuck wives would bring us up to date on their husbands' affairs.

Theodore K. Keith T'52 has been appointed director of financial planning for the Cleveland Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to this move, Keith had 18 years of commercial banking experience in Worcester, Mass., and in Ohio. ... John A.Taylor T'54 has been elected treasurer of the Patent Trader, a bi-weekly newspaper with headquarters in Mt. Kisco, N. Y. John has worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and for Cresap, McCormick and Paget in New York City prior to his move.

Thomas J. Murray T'47 has been appointed senior vice president in charge of marketing and operations for Jacqueline Brandwynne Associates, Inc. a subsidiary of Benton & Bowles. Tom is a specialist in the area of consumer packaged goods and services. ... Roy F. Duke Jr. T'49, vice president and treasurer of the Colonial Life Insurance Co. of East Orange, N. J., has been elected president of the board of trustees of East Orange General Hospital. Roy has been very active in hospital affairs for many years. ... Walter G. Freedman T'61 was elected vice president of corporate develop- ment for Consolidated Foods Corporation, having joined this firm in 1970. Walter is the former president of Oz Food Corpora- tion of Chicago and has also worked with Sara Lee and IBM.
