JohnSpringer, associate administrator of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, was recently named president-elect of the New England Hospital Assem- bly. John took his master's degree in hospital administration from the University of Michigan and then served as a Marine Corps pilot. He began his hospital administration career at Mary Hitchcock in 1959. He, Jane, and their four daughters, Kelley (13), Dana (10), Susan (7), and Nellie (3), live at 1 Fox Field Lane in Hanover. Bob Henderson, who is associate group vice-president of Honeywell Information Systems, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Blue Cross, to serve a three-year term. He, Carol, and their four sons live at 56 Westgate in Wellesley, Mass. Looks like there's at least the potential for a 4-way Springer-Henderson merger!
Phil Metzidakis, associate professor of Spanish at Swarthmore College, is off to Spain on a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship, especially designed to give opportunities for self-development to young teachers and scholars of the humanities. Phil will be examining the influence of certain modern Greek authors, Palamas, Venezis, and others, on the writings of Spaniard Miguel de Unamuno. Phil has written two books and numerous articles and reviews on Unamuno, and will be compiling and critically interpreting Unamuno articles that have as their central theme radical opposition to many of his government's policies and political practices. Phil, Pauline, and their two children will be leaving for Madrid in August for the 1971-72 academic year.
Fred England has been elected presi- dent of the Tanners National Bank in Woburn, Mass. Fred is active in the property and liability insurance field as a principal in the Hastings-Tapley Insurance Agency and also affiliated with two others. He is a vice president of the Saugus Cooperative Bank and a board member of the Middlesex Bank. Fred and Valerie and their three children, Jennifer, William, and Hillary, live in Reading, Mass.
Still making good moves in the insurance business, G. Turner Austin has a new assignment as Southern Division Individual Life and Health Specialist with the American Mutual Liability Insurance Co. of Wakefield, Mass. It is not clear whether he will have to change his Dartmouth Club membership again, but he's already moved from Long Island to Dayton to Louisville to Atlanta. A chartered life underwriter, Turner joins American Mutual with 19 years' experience in insurance.
Neil Bersch, partner of the prestigious accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co., reports that his wife, Blanche, is now deputy attorney general for the State of California. Neil and Blanche live in Woodland Hills with their three children, Phyllis (16), Steve (15), and Ellen (12). Neil is also active in recruiting work getting Southern Californians to become Big Greeners.
Larry Harrison has just moved to Washington from San Jose, Costa Rica, where he was director of the AID Mission. He has become special assistant to the head of the Latin American Bureau of AID. Prior to his Costa Rican service, he was deputy director of the AID mission in the Dominical Republic, pre and post revolution. He and Polly now reside at 325? Worthington St., N.W. with their three daughters, Julia (11), Beth (9), and Amy (7).
When last heard from John andBarbara Kennedy had moved to Farmers Branch, Texas, where John and some other ex-General Dynamics pals formed a hovercraft company called Transportation Technology, Inc. John and family, including son John and daughter Linda, are now back in Connecticut, at 61 Haley Crescent in Noank, as John will head up TTI's Northeastern activities.
Carl England has become Western area manager in the Educational and Industrial Products Division of Ampex Corporation, and will make his office in Glendale, Calif. Carl's special responsibilities will include the marketing of "Instavision" which is Ampex's cartridge video tape recorder, in the 13 Western states. Carl and Joanna with their three children, Kristi (12), Meg (9), and David (6), continue to reside in La Jolla.
Mike Duffy, Lt. Col. in the U. S. Army Medical Corps, has been assigned as medical liaison officer to the United Kingdom and will be working this summer at the U. S. Embassy. He kindly suggests that any '53's passing through London avail themselves of his Embassy status. Mike and Caroline are living in Surrey with their three smaller children, Erin (10), Patrick (9), and Michael (7). Sean (16) is away at boarding school. As a Duffy should, Mike arranged for Erin, who was born on St. Patrick's Day, to celebrate her latest birthday in Dublin. Begorra!
Charlie Buchanan gained two sons (Mike, 12, and Dave, 11) when he married Charlotte Reeves, March 26 at the First Congregational Church in Appleton, Wis. Their new address is 214 South Rankin Street in Appleton. Charley's children (Doug, 11, and Claire, 10) will journey from Paris to join him this summer.
