Hanover is bracing for its first coed Dartmouth class. The town seems ready for the adjustment based on a recent first-hand appraisal. Major changes seem to be the addition of some dress boutiques, a hair dresser or two, and more diet soda in the Village Store cooler.
Bob Hill could give us his reaction to conditions in the Middle East. He and his Dutch bride Gretchen have been researching Bob's Princeton Ph.D. thesis, "Urbanization and Migration in Iran," on a Ford Grant. Bob passes on the following impressions: Egypt, friendly people; Lebanon, good food; Morocco, excellent handicraft; and Afghanistan, impressive mountains.
Ken Meyercord might be able to add to that list. Ken's been teaching on an assistantship at the American University in Beirut. Or maybe Bruce Kekernot could help, since Bruce spent two years with the Peace Corps in Turkey, two summers working on a drug program through the American Consulate in Istanbul, and a winter skiing in Austria. He married Mary Tharriner in Munich, daughter Lara was born in Austria, and the Kokernots are now in Minnesota where Bruce is getting a B.S. and working in juvenile corrections.
Dave, Pat, and Cary (one) Tucker earned a law degree from Ohio State, an MBA from Wharton, and are currently in San Francisco with Cooper, White & Cooper, a corporate legal firm. Also on the coast, Dick Firtel was awarded a Ph.D. from Cal Tech in Cell Biology.
Ann and Richard Olsen, with three-year-old Amy, have been living in Paris for the past few years while Dick has been conducting postdoctoral research for the National Institute of Health at the Institut Pasteur following receipt of a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Berkeley.
Nicholas and Patty Hughes, six months and 2½, have been living with their parents Kevin and Margy in a Mt. Holyoke dorm, while the senior Hughes doubled as dorm parents for the girls. Kevin is working on his doctorate in English at U. Mass.
Robert Watson, who married Mary Keys of Palmerston, New Zealand on January 14, 1972, has received an MS in geography from Penn State. Bill Laino spent the summer with the noted New York law firm of Mudge, Rose, Guthrie & Alexander, and has returned to St. John's Law School. He lives in Hempstead, N. Y., with Ellen and young Stephen, 18 months.
Dr. Andre Vasu is serving a residency with the Harvard Surgical Service in Boston City Hospital following a surgical internship at the University of Miami.
George Vincent took his Harvard MBA, wife Andrea and David, 3, from Boston to Lenox, Mass., to work in General Electric's Chemical and Metallurgical Division's stra- tegic planning group. Dick Wilkinson moved his clan, Maureen and Kimberly, 4, from Allied Chemical in St. Louis to Steelcase, N. Y., as District Sales Manager.
Bill Roberts is now a Systems Analyst at Sperry Rand, Boston. . . . Steve Samaha has been practicing law with Sheehan, Phinney, Bass & Green in Manchester, N. H. for three years. . . . Bill Wagner is working for Goldman Sachs & Co.. New York investment bankers. . . . Jon White, who served four years in the Army and earned an MBA from the University of New Hampshire,, has become a research security analyst for Scudder, Stevens and Clark, investment counsellors, in Boston. . . .
Bob Sweet has been appointed Assistant Vice President of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, a Boston-based real estate developer. Bob is currently Project Manager for One Hundred Sumner Street, a 33-story tower going up in downtown Boston.
Lt. Nick Steffen recently was presented with a bronze star for his service with Oceanographic Development Squadron Eight in the Pacific. Nick flies missions in support of missile tests and evaluations on the Pacific Missile Range. . . . Dr. TomCrawford is off on a three-year Air Force hitch at Tachikawa AB outside Tokyo. He's an orthodontist and Karin and Tyler Lee, born last July in Japan, will bring back good memories.
