To those classmates born in March we extend birthday greetings—Howard C. Abbott, George B. Davidson, WilliamM. Dent, "Vol" G. Jenkins, ClarenceMeleny and Myron A. Myers.
By this time you have received BillTowler's Newsletter. Suffice it to say that Bill did a fine job and the editorship of the Newsletter couldn't be in better hands. He will dig up news, you can depend on it, as he is "on the go," all the time.
Time marches on and our ranks grow thinner. Len Martin died at the Barnes Hospital in Webster Groves, Mo., October 11, 1971. He married Alice Elliot at St. Louis on June 15, 1915. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren. Len was in banking, investments and real estate. He was a member of the Algonquin Golf Club, Lodge 84 of Webster Groves, Boy Scouts of America, and the American Legion.
Grover F. Fox of 303 Cleveland Ave., Cinnaminson, N.J., died November 16,1971. A letter from his son Grover '38 says that his dad died in his sleep, peacefully, exactly two months to the day after his wife Elsie passed away. Grover had been fighting the dread disease of cancer for six years and his family was not aware of it until three years ago. Grover and his wife are buried side by side in New Hampshire three miles from his boyhood home, on Marsh Hill, Dracut, Mass. Grover loved that area and Dartmouth despite 50 years in the Philadelphia area. Needless to say 1913 extends deepest sympathy to the families of Len Martin and Grover Fox.
A letter from Ruth Libbey saying how much she appreciated the sympathy of the Class when Fred died.
A letter from Harvey W. Nolan informs us of the death of his mother, Mrs. Walter H. Nolan, wife of our departed "Harp"Nolan. He writes: "Please save the Class and Dartmouth a buck and cancel Mothers stencil. With kindest regards to all '13ers whom I met at the great 40th of 1953 from a 'growing older' 49er with a junior at Holy Cross, a soph at Temple and a perfectly lovely and understanding wife." Mrs. Nolan was 79 and lived at 6 Oaklawn Rd., North Smithfield, R.I.
Made a faux-pas in listing "Dan" Chase as a member of our Class. It seems he entered with '13 but according to Sig Larmon '14, "Dan Chase was regarded as one of the outstanding members of the Famous Class of 1914."
