Still barely able to see and write after a plethora of Bowl Games that leaves one exhausted; glad to get back to the salad bowl. Pre-type football is boring. The coaches mainly call the plays, the team then carries out their routine assignments, leaving little to the imagination. Ivy League football is still the best.
Most of us are glad to see the end of 1972. It was a sad one for us. We lost a good many classmates, all loyal men to the Class and Dartmouth. However those of us who are fortunate to be around, must carry on and make plans for the present and the future. One big event which looms up is our 60th Diamond Jubilee Reunion in June of this year. Bob Conant is optimistic for a good turn-out and expects to hear from those who have not yet decided.
The 1913 executive committee has been sadly reduced since our last Reunion. The committee consists at the moment of the following: LincolnS. Wilson, Elmer C. Tucker, Carl Forsaith,"Milt" Arononwitz, Oscar B. Scharrer and the class officers. A number of appointments have been made and they are: News Letter Editor Howard Stoughton, Reunion Chairman Robert O.Conant, Bequest Chairman Clarence C. Meleney, and Reunion Giving, Milton Aronowitz. The nominating committee is still to be appointed. "Bill" Terry carrying on for our ailing president Bart Shepard is getting things done in cooperation with other members despite the fact that he is a long way from Hanover. Bill writes that he will continue to do his best at long range and will see to it that all matters relating to the Class are taken care of, and invites suggestions from any one.
Received a very interesting letter from BillDent. He is a retired public accountant and lives in East Hampton, L.I., N. Y. He spent the Xmas holidays with his daughter Jean Lane in Washington, D. C., and his granddaughter Jerry Lane and his his Dyan. His daughter Jean Lane is manager of the magazine section of the Library of Congress. His grandson Phillip Lane and wife and greatgrandson and great granddaughter are in Thailand where he is at the U. S. Embassy. He has been stationed in Manila in the Phillipines, Guiana, South America, and Turkey. Bill, since he lost his wife Alveda in March of '71, keeps house including the cooking and takes care of his three dogs, Bliny, Gloria and Boots. He also sent an account of his wonderful family and their achievements which will appear in the next Class News letter as space is limited in this report.
Just received word from Chet Dudley's wife that he expired December 21, 1972 after an extended illness. Chet was 82 on November 13, 1972. He was very active in all sporting events until he was 78 at which time the malady he died of took it's toll. Our deep sympathy goes to his wife Swanhild and his family. Chester was born in Council Bluffs, lowa, and in college had a very notable athletic record. He played on the freshmen football team, the varsity football squad (2, 3), and was vice president of the Class (2). He was in the insurance and banking business and was a member of the Masons and Shriners. His obituary will appear in this or a subsequent issue of this Magazine.
Happy and healthful New Year to all.
