It's April in Paris, and mud-season in Hanover. But Greetings, and thanks to those of you who have taken the time to write. Richard Jordan has moved from Mountain View, Calif., to Copertino, thus necessitating the memorization of a new zip code. Dick is currently attending Lincoln University School of Law and working full time as a bodily injury claims adjuster for Firemans Fund Insurance Company. Dick also found himself in the same reserve unit as classmate Scott Maricle, who is at Hastings Law in San Francisco.
Marshall Wolff has traded in his Lt. for Mr. and moved from San Francisco to Easton, Pa. After a short six month tour in Vietnam, he finished his service with the army. Marshall is thrusting himself at the world of business at present, and though I have received no word as to the success of said thrust, I trust, Marshall, that you are gainfully employed. Good luck, at any rate.
Paul Stageberg has been appointed Project Associate, Corrections, in the federally funded Des Moines-Polk County Metropolitan Criminal Justice Center at Drake University. A sociology major at Dartmouth, he received an M.A. in criminal justice in 1970 from the State University of New York at Albany's School of Criminal Justice, where he has completed course requirements for his Ph.D. The Drake Justice Center works in cooperation with city and county officials to improve the overall effectiveness of the area's criminal justice system.
And then there's a note from Jon Reich. So that his friends will know what he is up to, Jon resigned hack in August as News Director of WGUC, the FM radio station of the University of Cincinnati, and joined the campaign staff of City Council candidate Tom Brush as Mr. Brush's press secretary. During the Brush campaign, which was not successful Jon notes, Jon read a press secretary's manual written by Al Gordon '69, who wrote it after his experiences with Professor David Hoeh's campaign. Jon is presently pursuing a Master's in Communication Arts, and is doing some teaching as a graduate assistant. Further, he is applying in September for admission to the University of Cincinnati Law School.
The Lt. which used to precede the name of Donald T. Lichty has been changed to Cpt., and has been duly noted by your Class Secretary. Terry is a Captain in the U.S. Army Security Agency at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. He has hopes of entering law school somewhere next fall. Both Terry and wife Susan (nee Carey, Vermont College), who is a stewardess for Eastern Airlines, will not be at the Reunion, sadly, for they will be in Africa on their vacation. So that others are mindful of it, however, I graciously repeat that ReUNION is JUNE 16-18, 1972 and if there is any way on God's green globe you can arrange to join us, PLEASE DO! We have every intention of having a smashing success.
Steve "Monk" Williams has been racking up the "Gee-that-sounds-great" credits behind his name. On leave of absence from the Yale Law School, Monk is on the coaching staff of the U. S. Cross Country Ski Team, and is the coach of the Nordic Division of the U. S. Eastern ski team. Many will remember that Monk was on the U. S. Cross Country ski team in '68. '69 and '71, and that he was Assistant Dean of Dartmouth College last year. Currently sponging off his good friends and classmates in Hanover, he joined me for dinner recently and we organized a six-week adventure in France this summer "en bicyclette." Monk will lead a 42-day "Tour de France" for those interested in the out-of-doors, and it should be noted that he is also a Class A Bicycle Racer in the Amateur Bicycle League of America. Any of you who are teachers should tell your students about this opportunity and write to Monk or me.
June will be a happy time for DirkEhlert and Tim Gifford, as they will be graduating from University of Illinois Law School. Tim writes that he married "the mystery woman of the Phoenix house, Kay Nixon, and we have a three year old son, Dirk." Jane Myers from Plymouth State College married Dirk Ehlert, and they are raising two Golden Retrievers. All of the above's plans for the future are "uncertain."
Don Becker is still at Boston College Law working at the B. C. Legal Assistance Bureau with a heavy caseload. One of the joys of being so close to Hanover was making some of the games last fall where Don saw numerous other classmates. Mike Zalewski is presently a vice president of the Boston Financial Technology Group, Inc., along with John Preotle, who is an executive vice-president, and five other recent Tuck School graduates. Over the last two years, the company has developed into one of the nation's largest equity financers of multi-family housing. They are also becoming deeply involved in low, middle and high income housing throughout the country. Mike feels that the company is dynamic and working there is challenging and fun.
John Miksic is on his way home from Malaysia. And Jon Axelrod has been appointed as chairman of the Class Nominating Committee. The request for nominations is being made now for the 11 positions on the Executive Committee, and the offices of President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please suggest those whom you know to be interested, or volunteer yourselves. If there are several nominations for each of the top three positions, they will be elected separately; otherwise, there will be a general election for the Executive Committee, which will then select the top three officers from its members or the Class at large. The actual election will be held through the Class Newsletter in early May. A similar announcement will appear in that newsletter. Please send all nominations to Jon Axelrod, 1435 Fourth Street SW, Washington, D. C. 20024.
And last but not least, please note that to be included in any Alumni Magazine issue, you must get the material to me before the second day of the preceding month, as deadlines are necessarily that far in advance. For example, March 2 is the deadline for the April issue. Thanks.
In closing I offer this food for thought: "May all your labors be in vein."
