It's "On to Hanover" for our annual fall class reunion. The timing coincides fortunately with football against Holy Cross, and will give us an opportunity to appraise a Green team.
An additional word seems appropriate about Sherm Smith and the Sentry. Perhaps many of us did not realize his ability as teacher and writer as well as his exceptional record in the advertising business. The Class is fortunate that, through the efforts of Chairman Bob Boynton, Arch Earle has agreed to take over the important office of editor of our newsletter.
Recently it has been enjoyable to receive card responses from many '17ers. Bill Wyeth, educator from Andover, N.H., writes, "I thought that I was the first of my relatives to enroll in Dartmouth in 1913. However, my cousin Marion Chandler reports, "My great grandmother, Lydia Wyman, had a brother, Abiel Chandler, who left $50,000 to Dartmouth for an engineering department in 1842.'" We would be interested in hearing more about this benefactor. Bill.
Willis Fitch has joined the globe trotters. This month will find Will and Nina on a tour to Bucharest and cities of the Near East. We shall miss them at our meeting.
Walt and Phoebe Walters are attending an international meeting in Barcelona, as well as joining other surgeons to visit centers in Spain and Morocco. In addition to his loyal support of our class efforts, Walt has always maintained a generous and devoted contact with Mary Hitchcock Hospital. A gift to that remarkable and growing institution is always welcome. Who knows? "The life it saves may be your own."
Again we must report sad losses from our roster. Most recently, Alson Edgerton of Northfield, Vt., Francis M. Donehue, M.D. of New York City, and Laurence G. Nourse of Derry, N.H. Your secretary has been in contact with members of each family, and will make fuller reports as soon as possible.
