By the time you read these notes, our annual Fall Reunion of '17ers will be past, the program for the New Dartmouth in full swing and accounts of the summer activities of you classmates reported six weeks late — or, we might say, if at all! Funny thing, but we can't tell our readers about your doings if you don't tell us.
Butch Sherman did not write, but through the grapevine we learned of the recent promotion of son Joe to the presidency of the Citizens Savings Bank and Trust Co. of St. Johnsbury, Vt. Congratulations to the younger generation.
Speaking of bankers, our own AlEdgerton, newly added to the Executive Committee of the Class, still heads the Northfield (Vt.) National Bank with his usual poise and skill. His neighbors VicSmith and Irene have enjoyed an interesting summer making new friends and renewing the contacts around the old homestead in Calais, Vt. Vic is working on his financial report for the Class, which will be in the black, in spite of a generous dip into funds to help support the Fun Fifty-Fifth.
Gene and Lucile Towler had to postpone their trip north in June, but hope to see us all this fall. Good luck, Gene.
Our Magazine editor, Charles Widmayer, indicates a probable change in the format of the Alumni publication. As the Alumni body increases in numbers to 50,000 or so, there is apparently insufficient space to satisfy the intelligensia while keeping pace with the activities of the classes. In his last year as editor, let us give him a "Rouse," and appreciation for his generosity in allowing space, both pro and con, on the recent divisive issues at the College.
Vigorous Len Reade is already hard at work on selecting his team for the Alumni Fund of '73. Along these lines, you may have noticed that out of 34 colleges and universities, Dartmouth and Syracuse were the two on this list which have already collected amounts in excess of the original goals. (Dartmouth Third Century Fund).
Tuck School graduates, including your secretary, were among those who enjoyed the annual summer festivities at the home of Bob Burroughs '21 in Canterbury, N. H. It was fun to meet again with friends, John L. Sullivan '21, Tinker Lombard '20, Paul Richter '2O, John Hill '20, Jim Smead '21, Ort Hicks '21 and faithful Bob Kenyon '07. After an excellent repast, the übiquitous and inimitable Al Foley '20, brought the meeting to a close with a good Vermont story in that lovely New Hampshire setting.
The summer months brought sad losses to our group. We report the passing of G.Keyes Page, Cornelius F. Murphy,Alfred E. Goss, Robert D, Nuese and Lionel V. Tefft.
