John Phillips, Budd and Mibs Maring and Johnand Mila Turkevich represented the Class of '28 when President Kemeny spoke at the Marriott Hotel in Saddle Brook, N. J., on December 12. The meeting was arranged by the Dartmouth Clubs of Essex & Morris County and North Jersey.
Bill and Jane Ford are leaving the end of January on the auto train to Florida to visit with Bill's aunt, Mrs. Bristol, at the Suwannee Hotel in St. Petersburg. They plan to go to Houston to visit Jane's brother before returning to Pittsburgh in the spring.
Cal Billings, 45th Reunion chairman, reminds you not to forget the important dates of June 11-13. He has enlisted Jerry Warner to head the photography department of the hobby show at the Reunion. In the December notes we said KenCuddeback's son is the only '28 son at Dartmouth. Our apologies to Michael E. Neary, '73, son of John Neary who died four years ago.
We have lost two more classmates by heart attacks: Charlie Hunt, November 3 in Cooperstown, N. Y., and Al Willey, December 12 in Rochester, N. Y. Alice Gow, Art's widow, died in December in the Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long series of illnesses. John and PeggyPhillips attended the funeral services December 23 in Guilford. The sympathy of the Class is extended to their families.
Vic and Mary Hartjens of Alexandria, Va., will sail February 20 from New Orleans to tour the Far East on a cargo liner (80 passengers), visiting Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Burma and returning just in time for Reunion. Vic wrote us for Joe Chay's address in Taiwan—he and Joe roomed in Hubbard Hall.
Roy Myers is professor of Modern Languages at Newark State College, Union, N. J., and lives at 67 Perry St., New York City.
A card from Red Jenkins from Hawaii says "Rushed out here to urge Loren and MonaWesthaver to attend 45th! They plan to attend. See you in Hanover June 11."
Mitch Mitchell, who retired as a physician in New Jersey two years ago, writes from Dunedin, Fla.: "100% conditioned to retirement. Who can fight it? 85 degrees and sunny today—great for a round of golf!" Mitch says his other hobbies are oil painting and gardening.
Don Dodd missed the 40th reunion due to cataract operations but he and Helen are looking forward to the 45th. They live in West Chester, Pa., and Don is a manufacturer's representative, with an office in Paoli. Although the questionnaires received so far for the new directory indicate a high percentage of you have retired, none of our manufacturer's representatives have retired. Still in there pitching are Al Lathrop, owner of Rolph Mills & Co., 974 Valencia St., San Francisco, and Stew Wright of Minneapolis.
Jules Lemkin, who was with us at the fall reunion, is active as the owner of two ready-to-wear fashion stores in Lowell, Mass., and Haverhill. Unfortunately the Haverhill store burned down last November but will reopen at a new location in Haverhill in February. Jules' family started the business in 1898.
Moving to a warmer climate are Bill and EllenTreanor whose permanent address after February 1 will be 49 Audubon Pond, Hilton Head, S. C. Bill retired last year as an attorney with Union Carbide Co. in New York City.
Bill Harris writes from his home in Swampscott. Mass.: "I'm back in good old New England after my safe voyage to Reunion, Mauritius, and Madagascar. However, after the holidays, I shall sail away again on my 20th circumnavigation of the globe to hunt for more Chinese snuff bottles in the Orient and pick up rarities of Nepalese stamps." Bill retired as one of the country's leading travel lecturers, but when American Express invites him to lecture on another world cruise he just can't say no. Our classmates have many unusual hobbies, but Bill is the only one to list his as collecting antique Chinese snuff bottles. He belongs to the Chinese Snuff Bottle Society of Hong Kong and the Chinese Snuff Bottle Society of America Baltimore, Md.
Jo Brew, retired Harvard professor, is a "Distinguished Visiting Professor" in the Department of Anthropology at Southern Methodist University until the middle of May. Going over his questionnaire discloses something he never told us before—he received an Honorary LL.D. degree from the University of Liberia in Monrovia.
Sherm and Marie Baketel are spending January, February, and .March at Englewood Beach Condominium Villas, Englewood Beach Fla., the same place they spent last winter.
