At this writing we have begun mailing to each of you a compact two-volume set that will surely hold your interest and become part of your Medical School memorabilia. One book is Dean Chapman's "Dartmouth Medical School: The First 175 Years" and the other is his "Report of the Dean, Dartmouth Medical School, 1966-67 to 1971-72."

Though it is hoped that some time before our bicentennial we will have a definitive history of the Dartmouth Medical School, that writing has not yet been undertaken. Meanwhile, we have Dean Chapman's 100-page-plus history and it will serve well as a concise literary bridge. It is being published by the University Press of New England, with its official publication date soon to be announced. Some of its now-updated text formerly comprised a special issue of the Dartmouth Medical School Quarterly.

Dean Chapman's resignation, effective June 30, has been accepted by President Kemeny. Dr. Chapman will be Vice President of the Commonwealth Fund. His busy and exceptionally effective years in Hanover have been summed up in his special report presented to the College Trustees and you'll find it a lucidly factual complement to his History.

Notes: During a recent trip to Paris, organized by the Dartmouth Clubs of the Greater Boston Area, we had the pleasure of the company of William W. Teahan M'34 and we certainly enjoyed that company.

Through John P. Bowler M'17 we have learned of the recent death of J. O. Polak, M.D., Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Long Island College Hospital and President of the hospital's Board of Regents. Noted as one of the first physicians to employ "twilight sleep," he was a member of the Dartmouth Medical School faculty from 1901 to 1912.

Joy Cass M'68 has written Associate DeanJames C. Strickler M'51 with some fine news: "Hello to everyone! We have a son now, Jonathan Leo born September 2. His two sisters think he's O.K.! Leo (also M'68) will be starting a residency Internal Medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital in July, so hooray! we stay in New England! I'm about halfway through a pediatrics residency, moving along in the right direction, anyway! I hope we make it up to Dartmouth for a visit, but with three little ones it's like moving an army-I guess you know!"

Editor's Note: Dean Strickler and his wife pPage who live in Norwich, have five children.

Robert E. Naylor M'69, formerly of San Diego, reports that his address is now: Postal Service Center, General Delivery, Brooks AFB, Texas 78235
