Foster W. Blough, Assistant Comptroller of the College since 1966, has been promoted to the new position of Director of Sponsored Activities.

His appointment marks the growth of sponsored activities at Dartmouth to nearly 200 contracts for certain kinds of research and other specific experimental projects amounting to more than 56.5 million during the past fiscal year. Usually, the sponsoring agency is the federal government, but frequently corporation and foundation grants fall into this separately administered category of income underwriting research and educational projects.

As assistant comptroller, Mr. Blough has administered Dartmouth's sponsored activities for several years, in addition to other responsibilities, but now will concentrate on that area and related concerns. He will also serve as executive secretary of the Council on Sponsored Activities,

Mr. Blough, who holds a B.E.E. degree from Villanova (1946) and an M.A. in personnel administration from Stanford (1956), came to Dartmouth in 1963 as administrative assistant at the Thayer School of Engineering upon retirement as a Major after 22 years in the U. S. Marine Corps.
