March! The beginning of the mud season; the time to ride out of here, but here I sit. Back in the December issue of The Dartmouth a headline screamed "Alumni Trust Courts Disgruntled Alumni." Under it Bill Rich, one of the founders and trustees of the Trust, was quoted as saying "We do not see ourselves as a pressure group, but we do see ourselves as a group which allows an alumnus a different means of expression." And February's issue of the Mag had a full-page advertisement inviting alumni to send their contributions to the Trust, saying "Does the College want your money, but not your opinions? Did they listen to you before: 1) They abolished ROTC? 2) They adopted coeducation? 3) They dropped the Indian symbol?" The ad pledges to give the money contributed to those areas of the College's development which retain the traditional Dartmouth Spirit. This year the money goes toward the hockey rink. Future gifts may go to such groups as the Outing Club, Rugby Club, and the Fraternities.

Personally, I think this is a bold and interesting step for these younger alumni to have taken. I should add that Dick Stowell is another classmate who is active with the Trust. What do some of the rest of you think? If you are among those who have not contributed before because you were "disgruntled" would you now care to take part in the support of the College in this alternate way: Please write in and let me know. By the way, does anyone remember L.O.T.F.?

Richard Olson, who helped organize employers of a canning factory for Madison Teamsters Local695. was named editor of Racine Labor last January I. An English major while on. campus, Dick helped in Senator Eugene McCarthy's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. When he graduated, Dick enlisted in the Army and was sent to the Defense Department's language school at Monterey, Calif., where he was taught Vietnamese. Though never sent to Vietnam, Dick served his duty at Fort Polk, La., and Fort Bragg, N.C.

The Phillips Exeter Bulletin tells us that Nick Dawson, wife Elizabeth, and daughter Schuylar are living in Shute House there where Nick is an Instructor in Art. He received his master's in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972.

Having completed his Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the State University of New York, Buffalo, Rich Kimball is now an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at the State University College in Fredonia, N.Y.

Have I mentioned before that Pete Fahey Jr. has arrived and joined the scene along with older sister Kimberly, and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Fahey? The Faheys are residing in Watertown, Mass. Hap and Sara Ridgway just sent along some great brochures of their family ranch in Wyoming, which Hap says they operate for students in the summer "to pay the bills for school throughout the year." Take a look at their ad in the Alumni Register in the back of the Alumni Mag and let them know if anyone you know between 13 and 17 might be interested. It looks like a fine way to spend part of the summer. Thanks for the letter. Hap.

And finally, by the time you read this I will have just gotten back from Europe. This time it's pleasure, as I will be the best man for a French friend getting married in Switzerland. Going from one snow-covered stomping ground to another, but a great change of scenery.

Alumni Fund (or Trust) gifts are about to enter the middle stages for this year. Don't forget them. The College and the Class are counting on you. And, speaking of the Class, we could use that dues envelope or your check no matter how modest. Will you try to give something this year? Thanks. Until next time, Eric.
