Trunkie Brittan reports from Hanover that 44 classmates made the October reunion, most of whom were accompanied by their wives. MillieBreithut and Janet Woodbridge also attended. He looks forward to the next fall reunion at the Penn game on October 11, 1975. Now is the time to start making plans!
From Calgary Brett Sine writes: "I've been retired slightly over two years now after 44 years in the lumber business. Am still a director of the company I was president of, but it does not limit my playing golf in the quantity, if not quality, I used to think I should. I always envied the friend who used to say he played golf on company time as he couldn't afford to on his own time.
One '29er who has no trouble keeping up with modern gadgetry is Harry Lewis. Recently he was named administrative partner of Boettcher and Company, a Denver-based investment banking firm, where he oversees the operations department. He has developed a number of highly innovative systems to help speed the flow of information to the firm's clients, including a computer system that has become a model for others in the industry and has been licensed to other brokers. He also serves as a member of the three-man executive committee.
Austin Starrett sent in a few lines with his class dues: "Still enjoying retirement and a bit of travel. Most recent trip was one to Scandinavia in June with my older son David, Class of '64. Among those at Kennedy Airport to see me off were Paul and Elsie Goddard. I had enjoyed their hospitality in their home in Rockville Centre the night before. Sorry I will not be able to make the reunion this fall."
Bliiiker Black had an unexpected treat while serving on a New Hampshire jury recently. As part of the trial, the jury was shown some choice porno films - free of charge and all perfectly legal!
A real assist to your scribe comes from John Laffey in Dennis, Mass.:
"I didn't inquire whether or not you have some appointed contact doing leg work for you here on the Cape and Islands area, so I have made myself a self-appointed secretary for reporting a Dartmouth Club affair where some '29ers showed up.
"The Dartmouth College Club of Cape Cod meets the last Tuesday of the month for luncheon at Mildred's Chowder House in Hyannis.
"Our meeting last month was attended by some 65 to 70 alumni. Of the 16 or so '29ers reported living on the Cape and Islands area, eight attended.
"Adelaide and Johnny Quebman came down to Dennis for the day and John and I went to Hyannis for the luncheon. There were the following classmates: Archie Crowley, Herb Fish, John Laffey, Earl Lister, Gene Magenau, John Quebman, Hal Ripley, and Phil Rising.
"I thought you'd like to know they all look hale and hearty."
John, your nomination as '29 secretary for the Cape and the Islands is hereby confirmed!
Hal Ripley also wrote enthusiastically about Mildred's Chowder House and then set me straight on the name of the company that he and John Brown Cook have run successfully for so many years. The October column should have referred to the Reliable Electric Company and not Reliance so sorry, please. The confusion of names took me back to 1933 when I worked for the old Sunbeam Electric Mfg. Company of Evansville, which was often confused with the outfit that made mixmasters, the Sunbeam Electrics! Mfg. Company.
Finally, a plea for help! Chris Born is missing two reels of 16 mm. film showing some of our reunion activities. Please get in touch with him if you can provide clues to their whereabouts.
