My last column was described as being in a depressive mood; let this one start on a very positive note, and the theme be "thanks to many, friends." Where shall we begin? Well, first for those many who have said "count me in" come June for the 50th Reunion; for the many who have backed this up with a deposit; and loud cheers for the many who backed our very special fund drive this year with writing checks in a multiple of four times their average or most recent Alumni Fund gift; and for PhilVail Huyck's loyal helpers, as well as for the less publicized Bequest work (in many ways a tribute to our Charlie French). On a somewhat different note, but thankful, the obituary for Al Brown was written, at his request, by our Jimmie Reid out of his many years of friendship with Al - both skilled writers by profession. I have used some helpful information about Larry Harter from a friend and admirer, Rog Allen, newsletter editor for '37, and suggested he might write that obituary but he deferred to a classmate - in this case, me.
With space reduced, thanks to shortages and expense, I will stick to the most important function of this and all other class publicity for the next two-plus months: the Reunion... not just any old reunion... but our big one, the Golden one, the 50th. Two more thank-yous are in order: to Don Wilbur a reunion chairman parexcellence who really has his organization humming and the other to those carrying out plans at the local level (where Dave Dyche, Ken Foley, and I are the details squad at the moment) NOW it's your move. Get with it! At the top of these notes, we have another reminder of the art skills of Jim Taylor. I saw the heading he drew for our class reunion stationary for our 40th. You'll see more. Thanks, again, Jim.
We need your help: your " count me (us) in" ... and your check for the Alumni Fund. Spring is coming, despite the local mud season; no duck boards!
