Eleanor and Jack Hurd have returned to Hanover after spending the winter in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. They report that the swimming has been great and Jack had his dip every day. Temperatures were in the low eighties during the day with the cooling tradewind breezes at night. Drinking water is a scarce commodity on the island and a million gallons have to be brought in from the mainland every year. Jack was hoping to find another flautist who would play duets with him. The one Candidate turned him down.

He was mixed up with about eight sophomores back of the White Church, since moved to make room for Baker Library. He tackled one of the sophs and then was set upon by a couple of guys who held him until the football was taken away.
The following year, as we recall it, a member of our class grabbed the football, deflated it, and shoved it under his sweater - then nonchalantly walked down the sidelines to the other end of the campus. Bill also recalls the two pedlars who came into the dormitories yelling "Sweet Cider" and "Ci-der and apples".
A certain amount of hard cider consumed led one Wheeler Hall resident, Cummings by name, to climb out onto the roof and drop three floors to the ground (first name and class unknown).
