Ready about, hard alee'73s -
Welcome, once again to the private confines of Cap'n Quigs. Our course this month has been set... short and simple! If my sense of direction serves me well, we last laid anchor in your pocketbooks, reminding you of your future commitments to the Olde Port-of-call, the Hanover Plains, via the Dartmouth Alumni Fund Drive. Whether you are aware of it or not, the Class of '73 has already established a precedent: It has become the top class in the history of the College to pledge its dollars in the first year of Fund involvement since graduation. It is a title well-earned, and we hope that those of you who have not yet participated - either through physical or monetary means - will do so soon. Let's keep the ship shape, the lines taut, and the sails full.
In looking over my correspondence for this month's column, it seems that the Cap n has finally been struck by the inevitable ... the incredible ... the incomparable wit and charm of the Masked Stork! The unknown creature of the night has postmarked two '73 class news notes from Philadelphia. And that's all I know. Nevertheless, thanks to his thoughtfulness, your secretary with pen-in-hand has something to write about.
Try these short whereabouts on for size: Glenn Anderson seems to be making it big at B.C. Law ... James Brandstetter's wearing out his carpenter pants in Vail, Colo.... John Goheen has finally memorized his Library of Congress categorizations for a job at Baker ... Ray Gottesfeld's roughing it up at Univ. of Penn. Med School ... Ted Lauper is a model student at B.U. Law ... Bob Mikelonis is brushing teeth at Univ. of Pittsburgh ... Jennifer Parser represents the distaff side for East Coast and Foreign Dartmouth Admissions ... Carl Pedersen is computer programming for a New Hampshire firm ... Frank Ricciardone's teaching English as a second language at a University in Trieste, Italy.
Bruce Rosenfield manages to soak up the sun's rays every now and then at Stanford Law ... Michiel Ultee's making potions at Northwestern Univ. Grad School of Chemistry ... James Williams may one of these days have to defend Ultee in a law suit while attending Northwestern Law ... Tom Wilcox sold James Brandstetter his pair of carpenter pants at Hanover Hardware ... and, at last word-of-mouth, David Zelie's spreading Gospel Truth in Meriden, N.H.
Jeff Barton writes and informs me that he has own teaching English and coaching j.v. basketball at his old alma mater, Friends Seminary, Manhattan. Starting October, he expects to resume graduate studies in English literature at Cambridge University, England, which sounds all very reasonable.
Dale Pope wishes to inform all those planning to attend his wedding in August: "put simply, cancel the plans."Seems Dale has placed graduate studies at the School of International Management in Arizona ahead of marital obligations. The Cap'n tips his hat ... one man overboard has been saved!
Even the devious Elliott Kofoed (a former swimmer of some repute - ask Wally Lutkus) has broken down, written me a note, and, by the time he reads this, wished he never sent it along. "Cashing in on the energy crisis and getting cheap, durable, low-polluting vehicles back on the road for my friends" keeps Elliott's interests alive, coupled with a strong desire to enrich the poor and discourage the rich: "Writing and speaking publicly in Miami on a proposed sewage system that exposes the core of corrupt financial-political collusion that is not only ecologically disastrous, but economically oppressive." I sometimes wonder whether Elliott will ever mellow with time.
What the Cap'n cannot spread by word, KenLay seems to be spreading by mouth. Having recently attended a D.C. dinner at which V.P. Kreider spoke, I was vastly impressed by Ken's participation in the group. It seems he's really making a name for himself in the local area, having almost single-handedly coordinated the entire evening's events. Also present at the festivities was '73 Art Smith, a grad student at George Washington Law.
Once again, that's all for news that's fit to print. Keep the letters rolling in. If you plan to sell a boat, keep me posted. I have a potential buyer. Any boat's fine ... as long as it floats, has sails, and is cheap. Casting off until next month ...
