Dartmouth Diversion '75, an informal dinner meeting on November 9 of the Southern Tier Dartmouth Club, was a small but spirited gathering of loyal Green in the traditionally Red environs of Ithaca, New York. While ValArmento '73, secretary, greeted people at the door and handled finances, President TerryNewburger '73 circulated among those in attendance and solicited ideas for future gatherings.
Paul Guibord '36 and his wife Easy won both the awards for class seniority and furthest distance traveled, coming all the way from Binghamton for the occasion. Close on the heels of the Guibords for most distance traveled was Rich Buchheimer '72 of Elmira. Youngest alum in attendance was Cynthia "Inky" Ford '76, a first-year law student at Cornell. Accompanying her was a triumverate of other first-year students: Steve Ayres '67, Ralph "Corky" Eannace '74, and Rich Mayberry '75. Jim Carroll '66 was able to give them a few encouraging words.
Conversation was sprinkled with business tidbits thanks to Moina Varkie '74 and Peter Johnson '75, second-year business students. Speaking up for the scientists were agronomist Bill Pardee'51 and "rocks" man Bill Rathke '75. Rounding out the group were Mort and Cynthis Prince, parents of Dave '79. A showing of "Fantasy in the Round," a novel approach to touring the Hanover area, concluded the evening.
The next gathering of the Southern Tier Dartmouth Club will be in conjunction with the Dartmouth-Cornell hockey game February 7 in Ithaca. Preparations are in progress for a block of Dartmouth seats. Interested parties should contact the club secretary by January 31.
