Some simpleton recently said "None of you '22 guys never get your pictures in the newspapers no more." 'Tain't so. Truth is that not long ago newspapers in the North Country and even some in the megalopolis carried an Associated Press photo of three prominently noted citizens: a Vermont classmate, a U.S. Senator from Vermont, and a well-known man from Michigan. There you see our Sterry R. Waterman, Federal Judge Emeritus, shaking hands with a smiling, pipe-smoking man, none other than President Gerald R. Ford, and on Sterry's left is his life-long friend, George D. Aiken, dean of the U.S. Senate. The occasion was a dinner in honor of the Senator upon his retirement after 34 years of distinguished service in the Senate. Two thousand people, "the largest audience ever to sit down to eat apple pie in Vermont," were present in the University of Vermont gymnasium. Sterry introduced the Senator who in turn introduced President Ford.

The President praised the Senator "for his down-to-earth wisdom, his leadership, his depth and his greatness." And well he might, because George D. Aiken, all partianship aside, is the type of man Americans hope for in a U.S. Senator. Before going to the Senate he was Governor of Vermont. He is also noted as an avid horticulturist and is the author of books on that subject as well as on government policies. Well, admittedly, '22 does not splash printer's ink as much as it used to, but when it does get into the newspapers it is in mighty good company.

The College annually publishes a list of alumni officers: the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Council, class officers, alumni club officers and several other groups who work devotedly for Dartmouth. The '22 family takes pride in its class sons and its classmates appearing in the most recently published list. Robert D. Kilmarx'50, son of. our Killy, serves on the Board of Trustees where he is a member of the Executive Committee and vice chairman of the Committee on Investments. He is also Reunion Giving Chairman of his class. Wesley L. Nutten III '51, son of our sadly departed Wes, is on the Alumni Council as a representative of the far western states and the Pacific, area. Warren F. DaniellJr. '4B, son of '22's Warren and Mary, is president of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers. Robert G. Sands '59 and Tuck ''6o, son of our Walt and Doris, is president of the Tuck Alumni Association of Washington, D.C'. Harry Bruckner Jr. '60, son of '22's Harry, is secretary of the Dartmouth South Shore Club. And Twoters themselves include Hal Clark, secretary of the Pioneer Valley (Holyoke-Greenfield) Dartmouth Club; Wally Mountcastle, president and secretary of the Dartmouth Club of the Gold Coast (Fort Lauderdale); Russ Putney, secretary of the Cheshire County (Keene, N.H.) Dartmouth Alumni Association. Twenty-Two gratefully salutes its class sons and its classmates who are thus giving of themselves to the College. And, of course, there are the '22 class officers: Bill Bullen, Carroll Dwight, SteveKenyon, Spenny Smith, Gene Hotchkiss, Ike Miller, and a scrawling scribbler. They, too, do their damndest to earn their pay which amounts to the privilege of trying to serve the College and the Class.

The Christmas cards have been removed from fireplace mantles in Twoter living rooms, but there is still one more holiday greeting for all classmates. From Sudsavat, Don Donavanik's youngest daughter, it was received by Max Kenyon who kindly forwarded it for these notes: To colleagues of my father and family, Christmas greetings and best wishes for a happy coming New Year. May the wonderful blessing of Christmas be with you throughout the New 'ear. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything or any assistance from Bangkok. I shall always be at your service on behalf of my father as you are his friends." Thank you indeed, Sudsavat. She has been living in Madrid most of the past year and has now returned to Bangkok to help care for her aging mother.

Hal Clark has been honored by designation as a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow. The citation by the club describes Hal as "a modest, quiet, self- effacing but tremendously effective Rotarian." He joined Rotary in 1920 in Springfield, Mass. and in 1940 moved to Holyoke. He has been president of both the Springfield and the Holyoke clubs. Continuing for many years - with appreciated help from his wife Ruth - he still serves as secretary of the Holyoke club. Most remarkably, in 44 years he has not missed a single weekly Rotary meeting, and that is believed to be a world-wide Rotary record. The press report did not say, as it should, that Hal also for many, many years has faithfully served as secretary of the Pioneer Valley (Holyoke- Greenfield) Dartmouth Club. Congratulations, Hal, and thanks from your class.

The Class offers its deepest sympathy to Ozzie Siegfried whose wife Lucille passed away in early January.

April 11-12 are the dates for 1922's spring frolic at the Hanover Inn. Dates a week later were previously mentioned, but that third weekend in April has been assigned as Freshmen Parents Weekend. The Inn will then be filled and no Twoter wants to deprive a weary parent of a place to sleep. So, our '22 assembly will definitely be April 11-12. The details will appear in these notes next month. Meanwhile, it is not too early to notify the Inn (603-643-4300 or Hanover zip code 03755) that you would like a room for April 11-12. Be sure to say that you are in the Class of 1922. We all look forward to having you there where you belong.

Judge Sterry R. Waterman '22 greets a visitor from Washington, D.C., at retirementbanquet for Senator George D. Aiken. The Judge introducd the Senator.
