How does one determine just who are the members of his college class? It seems very simple, but to some class officers it is not so at all. The College seems to list as alumni of the Class of 1902 all who matriculated in September 1898, including, of course, all who received bachelor's degrees in 1902, regardless of entering date.
However, some men who received degrees with us were rated as "classmates," while others were not, and one man who entered with us actually received his A.B. degree in 1901, but was always "our" classmate. Some men who entered with us did not receive degrees until after 1902. Some of these men were no longer in our class, but there were exceptions.
Perhaps the academic definition necessarily lacks the freedom of the social definition, but both accept the requirement that the individuals must have entered college officially. Yet, as the College confers honorary degrees on appropriate notables, so the classes sometimes select honorary classmates.
