Alumni Fund Chairman's Report
October 1976

By any standard, Dartmouth's 62nd annual Alumni Fund campaign represents a series of historic and extraordinary achievements on the part of its solicitors and contributors. The records compiled by the alumni classes and other donor groups are covered in this report, but certain achievements are worthy of special noting:

• The '76 campaign exceeded its challenging $4.5-miilion goal by $47,000, providing an 8.9 per cent increase of $345,537 over last year's record Fund.

• Total donors, including alumni, parents, friends, and memorials, came to 22,475 — an increase of 618 over the previous year, with 58 per cent of all living alumni contributing.

• The Dartmouth Parents Campaign, ably directed by Mr. & Mrs. Sinclair Weeks Jr. and a 120-member committee, exceeded the $100,000 level for the first time, with 1,240 non-alumni parents giving $102,733.

• Memorial gifts, honoring deceased alumni, were received from 1,527 family members and totalled $235,600, also a Fund record.

• Corporate matching gifts, made possible by individual alumni donations, totalled a record $382,000 and came from over 400 corporations.

• Special praise must go to this year's 12 reunion classes, whose combined gifts, under the Reunion Giving Program, reached a record total of $2,116,000 — almost exactly one-half of the total alumni dollars given to the '76 campaign. Spearheading the reunion classes was 1926, which contributed an astounding $626,626.26 in honor of its 50th Reunion!

The Class of 1951 produced $258,487 for its 25th year with a new all-time record of 264 classmates giving at the $100-and-up level, while 1936 set a 40-year class record with contributions of $252,526, and the 45th year classes of 1930, 1931, and 1932 all exceeded $200,000 goals. Other reunion records were achieved by the Class of 1916 (60th), with a $44,509 total, and the Class of 1971 (5th) with $20,210. Among the non-reunion classes, 1953 led the way with a non-reunion record total of $88,649.
