Well, sir, believe it or not, we are about to embark on yet one more pilgrimage to our favorite watering spot in New Hampshire. All stops are pulled, publicity abuilding, already we have attendance commitments from a goodly number of classmates and wives, already we have pledges toward our reunion gift exceeding our 1975 Alumni Fund total by a wide margin, and the latent enthusiasm borders on the unbelievable. What's all the commotion? Ourfabulous 40th reunion next June — that's what! All prior to now has been low key, but BenDoran and staff have been laying plans for well over a year. Get thinking, you guys.
First things first. Financial-tiger-agent FrankRobin gets a hearty "Well done!" Finally achieved his goal: 1937 was first in our Green Derby of classes in the Alumni Fund drive. Final figures total $69,231 — well above the $57,000 hoped for. 390 contributors (a new Class record), and the immense satisfaction of seeing gifts from classmates long absent from the roll. Whatever motivation the absentees had to get back on-stream is just plain good news and welcome.
Provided this magazine gets out on time, our immediate interest is fall reunion October 15/16. Attendance dropped a bit last year, but at this writing our 30 reserved rooms at HoJo's are over-subscribed, and it looks like we have a grand slam. Rather than having a formal dinner on Friday this year, our class will join in the giant torchlight parade, complete with banners, ending up at the bonfire. Tailgating will be at Lee and Russ Stearns' new home back in Hanover, close by the stadium (10 Barrymore Drive). After the game we adjourn to the Tommy Dent cabin beside Ledyard Canoe Club off Tuck Drive for a catered dinner, to which hopefully the one-and-only Al Foley will bring his never-to-be-forgotten stories. Oh yes, the class meeting at HoJo's is scheduled as usual for 9:00 a.m., all classmates and wives welcome. Don't forget, this is the Harvard game. As a reminder, please don't show up at 10 Colby Road, Wellesley, that night wondering where the party is!
Unhappily we just got word from old faithfuls, Betty and Gib Reynolds that they will be unable to attend. Gib's health problem has kept them away the past two years. The diuretic pills he had been put on for over-weight proved futile, so he was hospitalized for a shunt operation last June. Progress has been slow. They decided to skip fall and aim for the big one in June. We hear that Jean and Bill Breitinger plan to be with us again this year.
Again looking toward next June, plans call for a new class directory. The last (1972) is hopelessly out of date. As Rog pled in a recent issue of the Mint Bag, "Brother, can you spare a stamp?" Cost of mailing out two sets of double reply cards would put too big a dent in the class treasury. To get up-to-date information, we plan to include a printed card you can fill in, self-addressed, with the Mint Bag, but your help with the stamp will be appreciated - in — fact a necessity. We plan two mailings, so be on the lookout for the envelopes marked "Class Newsletter." We point out that a directory will be only as useful and complete as your replies make it. We might also point out that the new College directory contains the most meager of information, hardly enough for our needs. BillRotch will do our printing again in the same format as before, and the directories should be in your hands prior to June.
