There I was, bemoaning the lack of news to report this month and flipping through the pages of The Morning Union, Springfield's finest newspaper, and lo and behold what should I find on the business page but a headline reading "Massachusetts Mutual Picks Five Top Executives." Among those pictured was our classmate Emmett Jergensen who has been named a second vice president of the insurance firm. He will be in charge of financial administration in the agency division.

Don Evans of Cohasset has been chosen south chairman for leadership gifts for the 1976 United Way of Massachusetts Bay fund-raising drive. In previous United Way campaigns he has served as community chairman for Cohasset. A partner with Goodwin, Proctor & Hoar law firm in Boston, Don is also a corporator for the Big Brother Association of Boston and a director of the World Affairs Council. Inc.

Sarah Emily Frassinelli was married August 21. She is studying for a master's degree in environmental architecture at Pratt Institute and is the daughter of the Fred Frassinellis of Bridgeport and New York City.

With its usual insight and acumen, the Class Executive Committee picked a gorgeous weekend in September to hold its annual meeting at the Hanover Inn. Afterwards, we enjoyed watching the Big Green football team lick New Hampshire. Everyone was invited to the Lansing Reeds for cocktails following the game.

What made this Executive Committee meeting special is that Ginny Mather, Bruce's widow, joined us. And a highlight of the session was the unanimous election of Ginny and Townes Harris as co-editors of the class newsletter. By the time this gets in print, you may have received their first report.

Ham Chase has things moving smoothly planning for the 30th reunion. Remember the dates - June 5, 6 and 7, 1978. A long way off? Not really.

Our class president, Frank Weber, quoted some interesting statistics: 13 sons and daughters of '47s have been accepted into the class of 'BO at Dartmouth. And over-all, 55 per cent of applications from children of '47s have been accepted for admittance, a figure well above the average for the College.

We missed seeing our class agent Alan Epstein. He was with his wife Sally who is recuperating from a brain tumor operation. At last report she was doing well. No malignancy was found and Al's main concern was how he was going to keep her still for the next few months.

Our treasurer, Norm Fink, also was unable to attend because of a previous commitment. He is a very busy man doing such things as writing articles on "Taxation and Philanthropy - a 1976 Perspective" for The Journal of College andUniversity Law.

It was good to see college prexy Walt Peterson again. ("Things are going well at Franklin Pierce College.") And also George and CarolynBingham and Hugh and Joan Chapin. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Joan Harris, Wellesley '77. She's so enthusiastic about resuming academic pursuits that she and Joan Chapin signed up for another course to touch up on their Shakespeare. Who knows what horizons lie ahead?
