Mort Pechter wrote last November as a proud grandparent enclosing some of his professional photography of the Harvard- Dartmouth football game, including some shots of granddaughter Patricia, a Harvard sophomore and the baton twirler for their band, as well as action shots of the game. Mort added that he and Alese were further surprised to encounter their twin grandsons at the game (both Dartmouth seniors). The senior Pechters stay active as photo- journalists and enjoy good health.
Charlie Cusack sent me a new e-mail address awhile back so I acknowledged with a plea for news from Oregon. Good reporter that he is, Charlie replied: "I continue to coordinate our enrollment activities in central Oregon but have been trying to transition this duty to a younger alum. In October a '90 and I manned our booth at the college fair, which attracted 3,000 students in 2002 and 2000 this year, the reduction due to a blizzard the night before the fair." Of 95 colleges represented, Harvard and Dartmouth were the only Ivies. Charlie added that if their health holds up, he and Barbara were going around the Horn from Chile to the Argentine in January. Finally he noted that a granddaughter getting married in Toronto next October should dovetail nicely with our fall mini.
John Keefe checked in about his and Anns latest travels, a Grand Circle trip up the Rhone plus a few days in Nice and Paris. John told their guides while in Aries, Armistice Day, that some five on the trip were WW II vets and that his ship, the Somers, had been at the Normandy and southern France invasions. Result: "We five marched in the parade and were honored in the Hotel de Ville with speeches, photos and drinks."
Bing Donaldson had recent conversations with two Chatham stalwarts, John Robinson and Don McCorkindale, trying to get them to attend a Cape Dartmouth luncheon. He also chatted with Jud Waldron, the squire and number one booster of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Phil Harmon, thanks for obit input.
Since the last column John Meleney and Ben Edmonds have passed on. Our condolences to their families. Stay well!
