This month we mean business. All business Because all the news we have is business-related.
Our innovative New Jersey banker Tom Sayles sent us a clipping from The AmericanBanker reporting the election of Pete Ankeny as president of the First National Bank of Minneapolis. Pete's rise with this $1.2 billion-deposit bank has been meteoric. He joined the bank in 1967 after a career with the family firm of Theodore Hamm Brewing Company. His latest position with the bank was as executive vice president in charge of the retail investment services. Besides his banking activities Pete is chairman of the board of trustees of the Blake Schools, Hopkins, Minn., and a trustee of the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital.
The William Underwood Company has announced the election of Ed Hayes as vice president, general manager, international, of this pioneer food canning company. In his new position, Ed will be the chief executive of all foreign subsidiaries of William Underwood including operations in the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, Ed will act as company liason representative for Underwood partnership interests in Costa Rica and Norway. Ed joins Underwood after eight years with Quaker Oats, the last few as managing director of Quaker Oats in England and vice president of Quaker's International Division.
The American Management Association has announced the election of Tom Osborn as vice president of marketing operations for the 53,000-member American Management Associations. After leaving Dartmouth, Tom received a 8.8.5. degree from Northwestern University School of Business and attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Minnesota. Tom's new position will require a move from his home town of St. Paul, Minn, where he was involved in numerous business enterprises. He will now be located at American Management Association's world headquarters in New York.
It appears that my reporting is not always as accurate as it should be, since my references to Charlie Morrison in the February magazine were not quite accurate. I seem to have omitted one family member, Charlie's nine-year-old daughter Suzanne who completes the household of Charlie, Fran, Chris and Charlie Jr. I also overlooked a second Peter Bullis-designed house that the Morrison's are fortunate to own. Pete has designed a home in Sunapee for Charlie and family in addition to their house in Needham. Charlie also claims that I over promoted his position with Arthur Andersen. But I don't really believe anyone could overpromote Charlie Morrison.
Rumor has it that Dave McLaughlin has been seen in varied parts of the United States on both Dartmouth and Toro Company business. Dave was in San Francisco speaking to the security analysts group; in Boston speaking to a security analysts group, and meeting with a group of '54s, and in Albany addressing a group of class agents. Not bad for one week. I wonder when he works!
That about does it for now. Keep the good news coming.
