You must know that if the sun is shining and you can get out on the tennis courts or the golf courses, then it is the time when an erstwhile classmate will shortly be ringing your doorbell. Just a quick reminder to welcome George Voss' crew of hard-working Alumni Fund agents with an open heart and an opened pocketbook. I'm sure that you all are aware of the struggle of the private colleges to be able to fund quality education. Dartmouth is no different, and its needs are great. George can't reach our goal all alone. He needs your help.
It's lucky we're getting to the end of the school year because we're also getting to the end of the class news. We have enough to get through this column, but who knows what we'll do for the next one.
Bob Drawbaugh, recently-retired Air Force colonel, is now the director of development at Vermont Academy in Saxtons River. The job includes responsibility for fund raising programs, alumni affairs, and public relations. Bob's 20-year military career included tours in Southeast Asia, South America, and at the Air Force Academy-Most recently he was chief of the Global Plans Branch at Air Force Headquarters in the Pentagon.
Jim Conrad has been named an Outstanding Educator of America for 1975. Guidelines for the selection for this honor include an educator's talents in the classroom, contributions to research, administrative abilities, civic service, and professional recognition. Jim has been Dean of Faculty and Chairman of the Social Science Department and a professor of history at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. Congratulations, Jim!
Pete? Johnson has just been elected a director of the Idaho First National Bank in Boise. Pete is president of the Trus-Joist Corporation, a rapidly growing $40 million manufacturer of roof and floor structural systems headquartered in Boise with fourteen plants throughout the United States and Western Canada.
Bob Bastian has been elected a fellow of the American College of Cardiology in February of this year. Bob has been practicing in Williamsport, Pennsylvania since 1965. He is the fourth generation of his family to practice medicine in that area. It looks like he manages to keep busy since he is associated with seven hospitals in the Williamsport area.
While we're talking of doctors, we received a short note from Bill Cohn, who is practicing in Seattle. Bill notifies us that his new address is 17025 Fifteenth Avenue, N.W., Seattle, where he has taken up residence since his divorce.
The Wall Street Journal has been giving our classmates some rather broad coverage lately. An article in April discussed International Basic Economy Corporation (I.B.E.C.) of which Rod Rockefeller is the president. The article dealt with the relationship of Nelson Rockefeller and others of the Rockefeller family to the activities of I.B.E.C. On Wednesday, May 7, the Journal ran a rather extensive article about the current affairs of United Brands, of which Donald Meltzer is vice president of administration and finance. Don is apparently playing a key role during these difficult times following the death of the president of United Brands.
Our very busy class treasurer, Dick Barker, was a prominent figure at Class Officers' Weekend in Hanover during the first weekend in May. As president of the Class Treasurers Association Dick chaired that association's meeting as well as some of the other group meetings during the weekend. Dick has been an outstanding treasurer, and his recognition by the College is well deserved.
Well, that completes the news of the year. Hope you all have a great summer!
