Without a doubt, our fifth reunion was a tremendous success. Chaired by Tom Hanna and Pete Ruegger, and ably staffed by Pete Webster, Murry Bowden, Rich Crandall, Joe Daly, Bob Osborne, Mickey Stuart, and Curt Welling, our reunion committee put together a weekend so inviting that those in attendance numbered more than the 260 '71s, wives, and dates expected to be on campus — a terrific turnout by any standard.

The first function was a welcoming cocktail party in the tent on Friday evening. The significance of alcoholic consumption for the remainder of the weekend was subordinated considerably, despite an after-welcoming cocktail party, vodka punch prelude to dinner, Kemeny Koolers in the President's garden, a band with beer, and beer flowing continuously at the class tent.

An informal visit to the President's garden followed an alumni parade and dinner at a special tent outside Thompson Arena. A superb concert at Spaulding Auditorium featured the glee clubs, the Dartmouth Aires, and the Distractions. Back at the class tent, Red Balaban and Cats Dixieland band wailed well into the wee hours of the morning.

On Saturday morning, following a continental breakfast at the tent and an excellent address by President Kemeny, Doug Urban presided over a class meeting followed by a showing of "1970 Football Highlights." At the conclusion of the meeting, the Class installed its new slate of officers. Hereafter Jeff McElnea will be addressed as Mr. President, Mark Totman as treasurer and Steve Zrike will take over the reins as newsletter editor while I assume the secretary's chair. Members-at-large of the executive committee are Tim Driesback, MikeHannigan, John Lippman, John Marshall, Randy Pherson, and Tom Price. Craig Robelen, our new head agent, agreed to chair an "Alumni Search" project to locate '71s who cannot be reached with any college communications because of unknown addresses. Tim Driesback and Mike Hannigan undertook the organization of a full reunion scheduled for the Harvard game on October 16, replete with a class tent, continuously running beer, and good fellowship.

The class meeting was followed by a picnic adjacent to the crew house, with sunning and swimming along the Connecticut River. Next was a cocktail party and dinner outside the DOC house, set against the soft shadows of a setting Hanover sun along the wooded banks of Occom Pond. Entertainment was provided by the Aires and the Distractions.

We adjourned to discotheque dancing and beer at Beta house, followed on Sunday morning by a memorable brunch at the class tent. After an unforgettable weekend spent enjoying the company of good friends, we waved a fond goodbye and sadly made our ways home.
