As a welcome thaw has finally arrived in the ice-and-snow-plagued Northeast, there are signs at last that spring is here. Among this month's more noteworthy additions to the class scrapbook is news of Larry Manley's engagement to Ruth Blume Handlin. Ruth, who received her A.B. degree from Radcliffe College and her A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, is an assistant professor of English at the Loyola University of Chicago. Having received his master's degree from Harvard, Larry is an assistant professor of English at Yale University and is currently completing his doctoral dissertation. A June wedding is planned.
On January 19 a daughter, Erin Collins, was born to Pat and Richard Granfield at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Both are looking forward to taking their little daughter, their first child, to Hanover for her first football game in the fall. Her proud father is associated with the law firm of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts in New York City. Pat has "retired" from teaching for the time being.
And from "A. Nonymous" word that Robertand Kathy Moore are the proud parents of a baby girl, Kelley Ann, born January 2 in Fort Collins, Colo. Although mother and daughter are reportedly doing fine, the father is said to be recovering rather slowly.
Gordon Flint was appointed last January as special justice of the Newport, N.H., district court by New Hampshire governor Meldrim Thomson Jr. Gordon is currently an associate in the law offices of Judge John C. Fairbanks where he served as a law clerk during the summer of 1973. A 1974 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, he also serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Newport Opera House Association, treasurer of Orion House, Inc., a proposed group home for adolescents, and as town moderator.
At age 21, Gordon was elected as one of Newport's representatives to the 1971-72 term of the New Hampshire General Court, the lower house of the state's legislature, becoming the youngest member of that body. During his term, he served as a member of the Statutory Revision Committee and was chosen clerk of the Sullivan County Delegation.
David Reingold received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Oregon last December. His thesis was entitled "In Search of Perannular Interactions: Synthesis and Properties of Various [2.2] (2,6)-Pyridinoparacyclophanes" and was written under the direction of Professor V. Boekelheide. Upon completion of his Ph.D. work, David accepted a position as a postdoctoral appointee in the chemistry department of the University of Alberta.
Finally, Bruce Ferguson is living in Pittsburgh and directing various planning projects at Washington Center for Design, Ltd. He is currently engaged in "trying to publish some papers to prove to the world that he exists." He moderated a discussion on "Economics of Scale" at the Pennsylvania Environmental Conference in Harrisburg, Pa., on February 23.
