A few weeks ago I phoned Cort Horr and was sorry to learn that Marian had been in the hospital for about three weeks. We were glad to get a phone call three or four days ago from Marian saying that she was finishing her recuperation at home; Cort's hearing is just impaired enough so that he has difficulty on the phone. Marian's most surprising and inspiring statement was that she was looking forward to our 60th next June. I asked her what Cort thought about that. "Oh," she said, "I haven't broached the subject to him yet." With that sort of spirit, I am convinced, those of us who are even halfway healthy will close ranks and make it to Hanover next June. What makes Marian's spirit so remarkable is that she has been engaged in a battle with one of those dreaded diseases for the past two years. We have "a woman of spirit on our side." Let's make the most of it.
