When we were in college, the fame of one group of alumni seemed to stand out above all others. Apparently this group was not singled out for any one particular performance but was always ready to be of service to the college in all sorts of problems and emergencies. Perhaps a few individuals were mentioned by name, though infrequently, but always there was admiration and praise for the "Boston Alumni."

At that time Dartmouth was not well-known outside of New England. The majority of students were from New Hampshire, with Massachusetts next. But as years sped past, one could note a changing clientele. The New York area began to contribute students, and then the influence of alumni in Chicago and Denver began to show up. But for us, as undergraduates, the spread of Dartmouth influence was only beginning. We knew that the college was safe as long as it had the support of the "Boston Alumni"!
