There is good news on a variety of fronts this month. Gary Brooks wrote to report that he and his wife Meny have a new son, one Thomas Lipscomb Coleman Brooks (TL for short), born on April 29, 1977. Rachel, who turned two last Christmas, is apparently excited about her new 8 lb 5 oz brother. Gary also wrote that the family is enjoying Atlanta and the home they bought when they went down there, and that all goes well at Alston, Miller & Gaines where Gary has been working for the last two years, specializing in commercial real estate and banking law.
From the Concord Journal of Lexington, Mass., comes the news that Damon Lawrence and Stephanie Saul are planning to be married by the time this column appears in print. Stephanie, a Skidmore College graduate, is with the Living and Learning School of Milford. Damon, who went on to the Thayer School after graduation, can be found at the New England Electric System of Westborough, where he is their project engineer. Word has also been received that Mike Molony and Mary-Clare Geiger were married on January 29. Mary-Clare holds an associate degree from Stephens College and a visual communications degree from American University. Mike is an associate editor and Mary Clare is a field editor of REMagazine, a monthly publication of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Washington, D.C. Congratulations may be sent to Mike and Mary-Clare in Arlington, Va.
It was my pleasure to attend a subsequent Dartmouth wedding in Washington, D.C., where Mark Arnold and Fran Gedney were married on April 23. It was a veritable reunion with Earl Zubkoff, Bob Rudney, Randy andCarolyn McFarlane, Dennis, Marc, and JackieJolicoeur in attendance. With a number of out-of-town guests to take care of, Mark never did get the attempted stag party held by his friends, but after the wedding everyone was able to join in for a lovely reception at the Anchorage House in historic Alexandria, Va., followed by an informal get-together that evening. Mark and Fran are planning a trip to Ireland to celebrate just as soon as things quiet down at OMB and HEW respectively.
Another celebration took place on April 23 when an exhibit was opened at the Francis Colburn Gallery at the University of Vermont at Burlington containing the recent drawings of our productive artist-classmate, StephanMcKeown. Also doing just fine is Peter Harter who sends a hearty hello to all from Arizona.
Geoff Scott, who when last, heard from was surfing off Auckland, New Zealand, is getting a chance to see another exotic part of the world. His duties at Chase Manhattan Bank have now taken him to Lagos, Nigeria. Looks like another interesting assignment. Also settling in to another interesting assignment is CharleyBacheller who reports that he has completed his Ph.D. in German history and has accepted a teaching appointment with the University of Wisconsin at Sheboygan.
Also traveling is David Irwin, a regional manager for Graco, Inc. So, Marylyn Irwin wrote to bring things up to date on his behalf. Dave and Marylyn are in Minneapolis and have enjoyed it despite a cold, cold winter. Dave's job as regional manager includes responsibilities for South America and South Africa. Also in the Minneapolis area are Reed and Pam Saunders. Reed is a marketing manager for Tonka toys.
In the February column I reported that John"Wojo" Wojtowicz was married and had settled in New Jersey. I now have a few more details to add. Alice Norulak and Wojo were married on May 22, 1976. The couple have settled in the community of Maple Shade and Wojo commutes to Philadelphia where he is a customer service field manager for Automatic Data Processing. Alice, a graduate of William Paterson College, has also been busily occupied in the business services office of New Jersey Bell Telephone.
Another busy person is Ric Shaw. Ric has been appointed chairman for the American Cancer Society's fund drive this year in Glastonbury, Conn. Ric leads a door-to-door drive coupled with appeals to business and industry and a variety of special events. Ric has also been active with the Glastonbury Republican Town Committee.
A good note from Crawford Hinman brought things up to date as to his activities. He and his wife are now settled in Stephens City, Va., with their two-year-old daughter, Hilary Tager Hinman. After graduating from Columbia's business school, Crawford went to work for Ryan Homes in Rockville, Md. A year later he and Richard Pifer decided to go into business for themselves and formed a fully incorporated home-building business under the name, not surprisingly, of Hinman-Pifer, Inc. Operating in the Stephens City and Winchester, Va., area, they broke ground in February on their ninth house and the two partners are looking forward to busy spring and summer.
Hope it will be great summer for all. Work on those tans and send some news along.
