Lindley Dodsworth and Lawrence Jenks, who work for the student housing office, are retiring this month after working at Dartmouth for a total of almost 90 years, which is a long time to work anywhere. Dodsworth started out in 1935 with the grounds crew and then went to the housing office as a dormitory janitor. He became a room inspector in 1955, checking mostly for fire hazards but also keeping tabs on cleanliness - an effort since given up. Jenks came to work in 1930 on the grounds crew and for the past 27 years has been a janitors' foreman.
"It's been a great place to work and I feel very fortunate," Jenks says. Dodsworth agrees: "I've never worked for a better place and I've never had better relationships with anyone as I've had with the students, faculty, and administrators here. I go back to the Class of '35 and feel as much Dartmouth as anybody."
