Art Lord phoned late in July from Madison, Wise., (where he spent the month with his daughter Laura) saying he was leaving to visit his sister in Northampton for a few days, then returning to Pomona, after spending a few days with his daughter Eleanor in Los Angeles.

Pineo Jackson, one of my most loyal correspondents, contributes a long newsy letter with several clippings on birds and birding in Central Park, New York City, which brought back pleasant memories. During my early postcollege years I birded there with several famous ornithologists, such as John Kieran and Allan Cruickshank. Pineo also enclosed a picture of himself and Ben Ames Williams on a duck shoot at Stuttgart, Ark., in December of 1954.
I talked to Leo Sherman and his wife on the phone in early August at their home in Grinnell. Leo is still confined to his bed except when they lift him into his wheel chair with the electric lift. He was in good spirits. Their two daughters visit them quite often.
Bill Taylor did not go to Cape Cod but again remained in Delray Beach, Fla., and had a most enjoyable summer. Bill's nephews are reaching retirement and plan to move to Florida. Bill takes a walk over to the ocean every day.
Here is Andy's report on our 1910 Alumni Fund performance: "In spite of not hearing from seven of last year's contributors, we have 47 this year, compared to 48 last year. Our total was $7,064, just $1,169 less than last year. Eighteen Tenners contributed. The others were widows, daughters, sons, and one brother. Without the memorial gifts our showing would have been pretty bad. There were also 18 endowment incomes from deceased Tenners. I was unable to write to many contributors, and I hope they understand. Andy Scarlett."
Larry Bankart died at his home in Norwich, Vt., on August 31. He was confined to Mary Hitchcock Hospital earlier in August with pneumonia. After making what seemed to be an astonishing recovery, he returned home, where a sudden reversal carried him away from us.
Ken and Ora Phelps moved from California to North Carolina in October of 1977. Ora has been in the hospital or adjacent rest home ever since. On January 2 Ken was en route to the hospital to visit Ora when he had a serious auto accident. Ken has been in the hopspital and rest home ever since. He and Ora are in the same room. I have talked to Ken on the phone. He has had a rough time.
