It's not the prospect of an early winter that concens me, it's a reluctance to let go of summer - so welcome after the Great Blizzard of '78. However, if we continue to have great fall weather I will be happy to look ahead to winter and even further ahead to spring (or is it look behind? You all undoubtedly recall the lines from Shelley's "Ode to the West Wind": "If Winter Comes, can Spring be far behind?") In any case, it will be a cold winter if I don't get more news from classmates. How about it?

Allen S. Russell, of Marshalltown, lowa, has been named business instructor at Marshalltown Community College. His responsibilities include teaching classes in the principles of business, marketing, retailing, and business management. For the past six years Allen has conducted seminars and training programs in heating and air conditioning service throughout the U.S. for a variety of industrial, vocational-technical, and educational organizations.

During the eight years prior to that time, he was director of the educational division for Lennox Industries in Marshalltown. His responsibilities included all dealer training, as well as the preparation of study materials and equipment models for repair and troubleshooting clases. Allen is a member of the American Vocational Association and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.

I received some news from our retired hosiery-business-executive classmate, HowardI. Hoots, who was running for New Hampshire's Grafton County Commissioner in District One this autumn. The only other person to file for the job is Dorothy M. Campion, Democrat from Hanover. Howard said that he is well qualified for the job. Before he retired to a Mascoma Lake home (Shaker Boulevard, Enfield, N.H. 03748) he was active in local public office in Garden City, N.Y., where he was a town trustee, personnel and budget officer, and mayor. Howard said that his work with a $10 million Garden City budget should make him qualified to handle the Grafton County budget, and stressed that he is running for "public service" not public office. Furthermore, after vacationing in New Hampshire every year since graduating from Dartmouth, he has come to know the local government. He said that since retiring he has spent time closely watching affairs in his town and feels that as a retired executive he has ample time to give to the job.

The Norfolk & Dedham Mutual Fire Insurance Co. has elected William S. Brown regional vice president. Bill joined the company in 1947 as a special representative and though a succession of field appointments was made manager of the company's northeastern service office in 1964. In 1972 he was promoted to regional manager. Active in the New York 1752 Club, he has held several offices in that organization.

Dr. Richard E. Welch Jr. of Easton, Pa., represented Dartmouth at the inauguration of David Wertz Ellis as president of Lafayette College on October 20 in Easton.

Finally, we have a bit of news in the Good Works Department. A national publication put out by the Shriners mentioned a visit by Gregg Robinson '78, (All-East pro defensive tackle who played in the 53rd annual Shrine East-West football game last December) to the Springfield, Mass., Shriners Hospital. He visited a young patient who hopes to play basketball when he recovers from surgery to make both his legs the same length. Also in attendance was Dr. Kenneth E. Nicholson, past-potentate of Melha Temple and area enrollment director for the State of Massachusetts for Dartmouth.
